I just installed a tool box in the bed of my 05 3500 Quad cab. The box comes with an internal light and switch that I would like to hook up. Is there an 'always hot' lead somewhere in the rear bed that I can hook it up to? I had a shell put on an earlier 1500 that I had and it also had a light. It seems to me they found a lead in the rear vertical in front of the left rear tail light but don't remember exactly as I didn't install it myself.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wired a light into my tool Box (pic in Gallery). I installed a Painless wiring fuse block under the hood and ran the power to it from that. It is a safe way to add power for accessories. Don't know if you plan on adding any other accessories like driving or backup lights. If you are the Painless fuse block (all weather version) would be a wise investment. If not the only other thing I could think of is T-tap the "always hot" or "charging" wire from the trailer plug in. You may be able to follow it back on the frame rail close to the front of the box and put the tap there.

Hope that helps

Anyone else??

Thanks to both of you. I have a connector for my 5th wheel on the inside of my bed and verified that the trailer charging lead was always hot. Will find an easy place to get into that wire with a Tee connector.

Thanks again.
