Performance brakes for cars?

Any NW Rammers driving from Bend, OR area toward Boise soon?

Well in this State of Incompetence (Read Kalifornia), The Governor Said today that our power bill will be going up 50% to cover the cost of buying long term contract from out of state Power Suppliers. My Average bill runs from $50 a month in the Winter to $180 a month in the Summer (105F in the shade).
I am always over the Baseline (364kwh) on the KWH readings,Bill Is for around 750kwh per month. And I Do Conserve!, My House is only 4yrs old and has Natural Gas Appliance's.
I dont know what other people are going to do that dont have newer homes with high seer rated A/C's Whom live in the Central Valley.

I think this 50% Rate Hike is going to run alot of Business's out of KommieFornia. And Is Realy going to Hurt the Row crop Farmer's and Dairymen Big time.
This Rate Hike is going to snowball like crazy into all factions of the State's Economy.

I Called the Governor,My State Rep's And PUC Complaining that the State Created this Problem, So the State better Solve it WITHOUT Charging the Taxpayer.
I told the Governors Aide that Gay Davis Can Kiss his Re-election and or the Presidency GOODBY. (Like I was going to vote for Davis for President anyway).

I think its time to start looking for an Other state to live in, A State that Does'nt have a Pecil Neck Moron for a Governor, A State that Does'nt have Enviro-Nazi's and Same Gender Weird-O's running the State.

Doug.
I am So P!ssed right now, I feel Like Dick Cheaney on the way to the Hospital. #ad

Doug, my power rates are set to go up 50% also, from . 5¢ to . 75¢/kwh, all because of the dam salmon. The PUD is saying if the environmentalists keep it up we could hit 1¢/kwh next year.

Like your diesel prices, I think you all are getting bargain prices on electricity compared to here. My last elec. bill was $155. 04 for 1115 KWH. That comes out to 14 cents per KWH. And those of us living on the island of Oahu have the "cheapest" elec. rates in the state! Some on the other islands are paying 17 cents per KWH.

But I got good news for people in California. Loretta Lynch, of the Cal. PUC proposed only a 40% increase. You just saved 10%!! LOL.

Doug,
I left Bakersfield the day I retired and I will never return. I will never live in California again. It was a nice place to live for a lot of years but somewhere along the line they lost it and I don't believe they will ever get it back.

illflem:

Do you have your decimals in the right place? I know that hydro is the best (cheapest) power, but I had no idea it was that low. Here in central Texas my last bill was 9. 6 cents/KWhr (including tax).

Doug,

I agree with Koa Man. You have been getting a relative bargain up to now. I used 368 KWH last month and my bill was $35. 16

LOL at your description of Gay Davis -- Pencil Neck Moron. #ad

His voice is irritating and he seems to be a bit of a twit, to say the least.

LandShark, the price is right. The county I live in and the one adjacent supposedly have the cheapest power of anywhere in the world. It's because Chelan county had the foresight to build and own three dams on the Columbia River. There are only 45,000 people in the county, less than half of one dam would be more than enough for us, bonds are long since paid off, the rest is profit that has become tremendous due to CA needing to buy on the spot market. Alcoa just closed down a plant here, they can make more money selling to CA the power they had contracted than they can making aluminum. Sort of like the farmers in CA making more money selling water to LA rather than growing crops. Our power company(PUD) does things with the profits that are unheard of elsewhere, like building parks, relocating bighorn sheep etc. When was the last time SCE or PG&E built a park? Just recently they (we) purchased 25 $600,000 diesel generators to make more power to sell to CA.

Not to be unsympathetic but welcome to the real world. Supply and demand. When consumers are demanding more and supply is less, the price goes up. Electricity has gone up everywhere. Every winter my bill usually averages around $75 a month #ad
This year it's been around $160 #ad
Oh well, I'll make it up with the fact that my license plates for the Ram are only about $65 bucks a year #ad

Bill, Are you trying to get me move up there?. He He he. I Realy do need to Move out of here. BTW. I used to work SCE, and I know of No Parks that they have built (like you said). But SCE Has Built Campgrounds in and around Shaver Lake. One Good thing is that,In the winter, Even though SCE has their Campgrounds Closed,They have the Campground Restrooms open for the Winter Tourist!. The Forest Nazi's have Closed their Restrooms in the Winter. No Winter Fun,Or Dumping alowed. #ad

Doug, now that you mention it I remember SCE campgrounds on Thomas Edison Lake east of Fresno.

You know I've been trying to get you up here. There's room for lots of people in the power generation fields up here. There has been lots of talk about developing E WA into the worlds largest power generating area, mostly south of me. The Hanford Nuclear Reservation would be the perfect place for a nuke farm, plenty of water from the Snake and Columbia Rivers for the turbines, plus the area has been proven to be a good site for spent fuel storage and it's not in anyone's backyard. The Chelan Co. PUD has been spending big bucks recently researching alternate energy sources including wind and solar farms. That's where the plan to buy the diesel generators came from. There is also the profits from the hydro-dams to fund the expansion. As long as people want more power it's going grow, the state government people are behind it, it definitely will happen. -Bill

Gosh !! I'm going to do the double check on Bill (illflem). Are you sure your rates are 0. 5Cents per Kw (up now to 0. 75Cent per KW)? Guys, if I'm wrong spank me with a wet noodle. Better yet throw the bowl at me.

We here in Avista territory (formerly Washington Water Power) prided ourselves is ten, yes ten plus, years of no rate increase. Now we're in the same boat as the rest of the nation with de-regulation. Kaiser Aluminum (fairly large plant) is paying its employees (labor dudes) 70% of their normal pay to stay home while Mother Kaiser sells the production power to needy consumers at H U G E profits.

My rates are going ballistic. Inour little town (look at the map fellas) we have two large gas-fired turbines and another power producer is considering building a $300,000,000 plant within five miles from my home. (Cheap Canadian natural gas ((no transportaion costs)) adjacent to the power grid)!!!

illflem, if I'm wrong I'll eat boogers infront of the post office #ad
Joe

PS... ... ... . I've done it before #ad

I will be happy if the rates here in Oregon go up only 40%. They havnt risen yet but they will go up! The ball is in motion. Kind of remniscent of the break up of Ma Bell. According to the governing parties at the time it was good for the Nation to eliminate the monopoly. Well it didnt help. Prices jumped up from$10 a month to over $30 a month. And they said competition would reduce cost. Well, now its starting with the power companys. If you want to buy stocks Id start with energy companys because there profits will sky rocket soon. Enough said

Haven't other states done the de-regulation thing with good results - read prices decreasing? done properly it seems to make sense... .

The term deregulation is used loosely (at best) by the media. What Kalifornia had was not deregulation. The price to the consumer was virtually fixed. That's OK at first, but with no ability to increase the rates, profits are reduced and then disappear. Where there are no profits to be had, no new power plants will be built. You see what happens next.

I'm not disagreeing that the CA version is screwed up - we all know it is.....

It's my understanding that the power distributors lobbied for & got a consumer rate freeze so that they wouldn't lose money when the wholesale prices went down. There was no cap on wholesale prices implemented nor were the distributors allowed to enter long term contracts - this is the problem w/CAs version of 'deregulation'. Distributors are 'forced' to buy on the spot market and that is root of all evil - look at the stock market lately, perfect example of supply & demand. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.....
