Is it possible to add electrically heated mirrors to a '97 rig? What would be necessary? A new wire and a switch? Just wondering.

I added PowerVission Mirrors with heat to my '97. I added an extra switch by the mirror adjustment with a led light there as well and it works great. illflem is correct in that the factory setups have timmer devices so they are on for a set amount of time and then cycle off. So I try not to leave them on for more about 10-15 minutes at a time. Then let it cool off for about same and if I still need the heat, repeat.

Timing relay in the circuit

It wouldn't be too hard to add a timing relay from radio shop or some other electronic supplier. It would energize the relay and time out at your setting.

It would be nice to have that part number for the built in timer...

A friend of mine just added the new flip out mirrors to his '96.

I will get some more details of that part.

Here you go:

5015737AA CONTROL, Heater (with Power Mirrors)

The timer is integral to the AC/heater control unit on the dash, as is the heated mirror switch, heated mirror relay, and the heated mirror system indicator lamp.

I just purchased and installed the same part. I checked around for one from a boneyard and was quoted $100. 00 by 2 places. Searched around and found it new at a Dealer on the East coast for same price. Some people are just adding a switch, but I need something dummy proof that turns itself off.

Truck is a 2000. The mirror heat switch is added to the heater/ac control panel. The truck had all the wiring in place from factory. The truck came with west coast mirrors originally. The kind that if you hit the mirror mounting bracket the door gets wasted.

Is there a place to get the heater pad to stick on the back of mirrors? I want to add heat to my west coasts and convex mirrors.
