Watch out for digital readout guages, you may not like teh "ergonomics" of them. The analog readout is more intuitive. You do not need to convert it to the "analog" in your head. I think GM had cars with digital readouts and they lasted only one year(the model not the reliability). If you are comfortable with digital- then go for it. This is also from knowing someone who put in digital years ago, and ripped them out. The guages may be better now.

I know this is heresy, but I MUCH prefer digital gages. My old '82 Imperial has the and I really like the exactness. The tach in my '95 Ram has marks about every 250 RPM or so. Not only that, but it takes up so much room to show me that it is turning somewhere near to 1800 RPM or so. If it was digital I could see at a glance just what the RPM was and there would be room for several other gages in the same area. All our gages are working off digital input anyway, so why not give us the numbers instead of cluttering up the dash with all these "somewhere near the reading" gages. I know that digital gages aren't cool, but so what?

I work for FedEx, and I've flown in the cockpits of our DC-10's. They have pyrometers that are a standard sized analog gauge, with an orange LED digital temperature readout in the middle. I got to thinking, "Man, I would love to see if I could adapt one of those to fit my truck. " Who knows, maybe someone makes a combination analog/digital pyrometer for the automotive/truck industry, but I'm not aware of one. The MD-11's are even more interesting, they have simulated analog gauges on a CRT screen, similar to your computer monitor.

What I would like to see is a HUD (heads up display) on the windshield for warning and problem thresholds on various sensors. For example, if the EGT got close to being too hot a yellow warning reading displayed on the windshield or a red one if it got too hot would be a BIG help in avoiding problems. Same thing with any other reading.

One thing I would have bought as the first option if it was available was a digital display for all intruments. I guess I've been spoiled by the display in my '82 Imperial. That these dumbed down pseudo guages are our only choice is irritating to say the least.

Joe,

Some aftermarket company is making a HUD display. Buick had one on one of the models. I don't know if it is still offered.
I'll try and find the site and post it.
