Larry Quinn_____the problem is the installation mostly opening up the wire group ( a rather large one) if later in the warranty there is any electrical problems DC will say no to paying the bill___so finding someone who is competent mostly DC ELECTRONICS MAN at high dollar is the only way if they will do it at all we know how they can be--I LOVE MY CUMMINS !!! but dodge dealers can leave ALOT TO BE DESIRED

Got my Idler done yesterday by a friend of mine that installs car stereo's. He said it was pretty easy and only took him about 2 hrs. Hardest part was getting the battery tray out. Anyways just drove from Florida to DC in one shot. The idler truely proved it's weight because I could sleep for a while and not worry about washing down the cylendars. Only thing, just remember to park away from cars, preferibly next to semi's because people seem to get annoyed when they hear the Cummings idle up right next to them. Personally I don't care but everybody is trying to get sleep so why bother people. I'm on my way to Maine to truely test out the cold weather effects of the idler. GMD

DD,
Can you please go into some detail on how your electronic idler actually works, any restrictions or limitations?
Thanks in advance.

The parts supplied in the box were adiquate but we used different conectors to install instead. What we did was use T connectors which instead of cutting wires, these keep the conection of wires together while the third is tied in and making it more waterproof. We had to remove the battery, which you'll have to remove the wheel cover to get at two bolts. Also the line that goes to the idler in front of the engine should be rapped in a plastic flex cover to protect it crossing the engine. There is plenty of room for the wires, but the box must be installed in the cab, because it is not waterproof. Soldering and all that stuff made me nervous that's why I went with conectors which are a stronger way of holding wires together. I'm on my way up to Maine right now but I'll keep you updated. George

Can you give details on what rpm it idles at and how it works? Any idea how much fuel per hour used when idling? Thanks.

-DieselDunn--thanks for your reply --- how goes your trip ? When you talk about T-connectors it makes wonder in the directions it says cut wires and connect wires from box it appears you did not do that and your system still works. The directions seem to saying to me that the cruise control interface wires will then go thru the box( in+out) instead of straight thru as stock which seems would not work? I to Im not excited about cutting them if not needed. Let me know in your next post. I can see that the biggest problem is removal of the wheel liner to get to battery bracket bolts. I will be waiting to hear from you. Thanks for your time on this. ---- To try to answer the post before me the rpm is adjustable and something like 1100-1200 rpm would be what is needed to keep engine from cooling down and oil pressure dropping way off. This device connects into the cruise control circuit and tells the cruise bump rpm when vechicle is stationary. As far as fuel mileage at idle its anybodys guess but this is mostly touse when very cold and you dont want to shut down so mileage does not matter much anyway.

With your application wich is the 24v I think you have to have it run through the box. With the 12v alot of the time you can use tconnectors which clamp down on the existing wire. This makes sure that you don't have to cut the wire. I think your right, but even if I had to cut the wire I would use connectors, you cut the wire insert one end, then the other then either clamp or screw in. Nobody really sodders anyway and this makes a good seal. One thing I have to call them about is that every time i push the button my idle jumps to 1000 and then i have to move the toggle switch to bring it up to 1150, i can usually do it one swipe of the hand but am wondering if you can't set it manualy through the box. Anyways I mounted the box up under the panel wich was tough because there are no mounting brackets for the box at all. Let me know if your having any more problems.

the rpm makes sense to me, when I cold start I sit there and keep it at 1100 for about five min. after that I take off and warm air is coming out of the vents, would be nice to be able to keep it there and go in the house and drink some coffee.

sounds like a lot of work. Espar.com has a remote control, doesn't interfere with your sleep, uses about . 05 gal per hour, and is no wear/tear on engine.

What's 1200rpm burn per hour? say it saves you $1. 00 per hour (maybe 2 at todays prices), plus fewer oil/filter changes, plus no need for hour meter...
6 hours per night, 1-200 nights it's paid for. How many nights per week?

I was supposed to get a final group purchase price in writing for ESPAR Heaters but the owner had been as swamped as myself. If anyone is still interested I can look into this in the New Year.

I like the idea of not needing a plug in so when I am snowmobiling the truck is always warm. I just gotta decide which way my BOMBing money goes.
