I have an '06 ram. I would like to mount a front receiver. Have heard that my truck has an "electro-static" frame and if I drill holes to mount the receiver it may foul up the electrical system on the truck. Can you shed any light on this for me? Thanks, terry bacon

The '06 trucks have a hydro-formed frame, but I'm not sure what they're referring to on the electrostatic part.

I do know that I've mounted many things that I've had to drill through the frame for... traction bars, running boards, oil gaurd bypass filter setup, walbro fuel pump, etc.

As long as you're drilling holes 1/2" or smaller, and stay a couple diameters away from the edge, I don't see it being a problem. I'm really confused as to why it would cause an electrical problem.

They probably were talking about the paint coating process is electrostaticly applied to the frame. That has nothing to do with the electrical properties. As mentioned just stay a couple of hole diameters away from the edge and you should have no problems. You do want to be careful about tightening thru bolts too tight and colapsing the box frame.

keep grinnin,

I own several trucks... we disconnect the batteries and drill and weld to the trucks all the time... . We've never had a problem...

BTW, we've welded to the frame but not in a way to stress it...

If we bolt to the frame we put a piece of tube in the hole that the bolt goes through to prevent damage to the frame.
