On my 2001. 5 with the flip out trailering mirrors, the driver's side glass has gotten extremely loose, requiring non stop adjustment. Is there a way to tighten these up or do I have to deal with the dealer on a warranty issue? My service manual doesn't seem to show anything.

Thanks,

Kent

I had both of mine replaced under warranty for the same problem. I think there was a bad batch from the vendor. Try to get them to replace both of them to save you a trip back.

I repaired a pair of mirrors that had the same problem.

Unfortunately, the only way I could fix them was to take the glass off the housing and tighten them up that way.

Here's a couple of pictures to show what's behind the glass and how I fixed them. The star looking thing is what keeps the mirror tight. It's jsut pressed onto the plastic shaft going through it. I just pressed it back in so the housing was tight and used Liquid Nails to keep it from coming loose again.

Although personally, if your truck is still under warranty, I would let them replace the mirrors.

So, do I need to remove any "enhancements" I might have under the hood? would the gauges lead them to look beyond the exterior??

Warrantee Repair!!

When I took delivery of my new 2001 bothe mirrors were defective (loose). The dealer stated that they had replaced quite a few. Must be a bad batch. They ordered a pair and replaced them with a smile. I looked at the inside of one of the bad ones and they are not what I would call really a good design.
