Hey guys, Ive been getting more and more serious lately about adding a booster pump to my rig, when I got another idea. I read a post awhile back about a guy who wanted to replace his stock LP with an 18psi Carter pump. My questions to you compadres are: Can I use this pump, or a similar pump, to simply replace the LP? Will it work better than the stock pump and not fail?

If this is possible I would appreciate it. I know some of the conversions out there are easy, but if I can use the stock location with a better pump then I'll do it.

That pump is pretty much what you have now, the only real difference is the stock L/P has metric threads, and the Carter has 3/8" pipe threads. The stock pump is made by Carter anyway. The big problem is the L/P is too far from the tank, so some guys relocate it to the frame rail back there with mixed results. The Chevy's and Fords I have worked on have the pump back there. If I were you I would get that new FASS II Pump, it lets you use the stock filter/water Separator. :D :D

If you want to keep your stock filter/seperator, just get a FASS-2. If you do go with a FASS-2, replace the banjo bolts between the filter and VP44 with size 6 fuel line and fittings.

I ditched the entire system -

The pageis a bit outdated. I am updating it to provide exact PN's, etc. for each route (using stock lift pump, replacing stock lift pump, using stock filter assembly, replacing stock filter assembly).

You can do the whole thing for about $350 or about $200 if you keep your stock filter assembly. Or even less if you use your existing lift pump. I think it's as good as a FASS and cheaper.

I have a Mallory 4140 (140GPH) at the tank with 3/8 braided to the stock filter and back out to the VP. i have 18-19PSI at idle and can pull it down no lower than 10PSI on a WOT stomp. cruise is right at 16-17PSI which in my opinion is perfect. this is un-regulated too except for the small bypass spring in the pump which i turned down from 20.

if you're not hopped up quite as much, the Carter (100GPH) should treat you fine.

i was thinking about doing this but i haven't heard any feed back about the fass-2 pumps yet. It would be nice to just add the pump back by the tank and keep the same filter housing. anyone have any info. for me?
