Just bought an 01 2500 4x4. the emergency brake goes all the way to the floor with no resistance. I checked the cable and all is intact. Tried tightening up the adjuster on the cable all the way and it didn't make much difference... . I am not familar with how the ebrake works on trucks with the rear discs? It seems like there is a small drum inside the rotor? What does it entail to pull the rotor off and investigate this. . Has anyone changed the shoes or whatever is inside there?? Thanks in advance for any help...

Your right about the shoes in the rotor. It's just like drum brakes. If you adjust everything to the tightest setting, put the brake on and still get no resistance, I would suspect the shoes are gone. Or the cable has an issue.

Also, a leaking axle seal could, but most likely NOT, contaminate the shoes and stop them from working. However, this is very unlikely as you can put the e-brake pedal to the floor.

I have seen one truck that had excessively dragging e-brakes. The shoes lost thier bond with the plate. There was nothing in there to work. I would tear it all apart and closely inspect for wear first. I think the problem will be obvious when you get in there.

Just my . 02
