My father had a heart attack last night and I need to drive to Spokane- 1200 miles. I have 8000 miles on my amsoil 5 30 hd and filter. 500 miles over. Just found 2 gallons of new stuff in the basement and may be able to get a filter from dealer. I don't want to abuse my truck, any suggestions? I can't find a cummins shop open and the dealer doesn't have fleetguard blue. You can also email me at (all lower case) newman@dreamlinks .net Thanks guys. Dennis

Dennis,

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just get in the truck and go see your dad. Being late once in a while on an oil change is not going to do any damage. A lot of guys just have their oil tested and go lot farther than you have for oil changes. These engines are really robust.

For what it's worth, I get Valvoline Premium Blue (the recommend stuff) at Kragens. Fleetguard filters are on the shelf at the local Peterbilt Dealer.

Thanks guys, you're probably right. I'm oughta here. Give your parents a call or a Big Hug If they are still around. Look around at the family you have left and appreciate them while they are here. Even "Uncle Harold" the strange one. :p

Merry Christmas, Dennis

Your safe, drive it. Hope it all works out for you.

Worse comes to worse someday, you can put petro in it, and change back later, no problems.

Gene

BTW,

According to a recent Lubes & Greases article on how OEM's actually calculate oil change interval recommendations, one of the factors is a missed oil change interval. So ya need not to worry.

Dennis, hope your dad is OK

Merry Christmas

Mike

Dennis-

The guys at my local Cummins dealer (repair/parts) told me that the recommended oil change interval for our engines in all other applications is 15,000 miles. They believe that DC writes 7,500 in the owners manual just to make a couple extra bucks. Don't give it another thought.

Dave.

Dave,

Check the oil capacity of the other Cummins applications. The oil pan on our trucks is smaller so it will fit. The oil change interval is still probably too short, but the smaller capacity does require oil to be changed more often than on a tractor.
