The insert on the shift nob is turning. #ad
Here at 700 miles it's just starting to turn clockwise:

Now at 1550 miles the shift pattern is almost upside down. It's truly embarassing. I feel like such a loser! #ad

Can you guys help a TDR member in need out?

First -- How do I remove it without scratching the plastic?

Second -- Is there a way to properly cement it in so it doesn't spin?

TIA for any help you can provide. #ad

No need to worry about it, that's the oil change/maintenance reminder. When it makes a full revolution, it's oil change time. Although yours does seem to be moving a bit fast... might need to check for TSBs on faster than normal rotation. :-laf

But seriously, you can pry it out of the top with a flat blade screwdriver. Just be gentle around the edge and you can pop it out without any damage. As for keeping it in place, you could use just a little silicone or glue on the edge of the insert when you put it back in.

So that explains it...

HA HA HA. #ad
Ahhh. The old "oil change interval" indicator. I knew it had a function other than merely confusion but I couldn't figure out what it was. Seriously -- thanks for the tip -- I'll try to get it out this weekend.

"My shifter knob insert is rotating!" :-laf

LOL. . . couldn't resist ;)

You mean to tell me that this has already been beaten to death? Who knew? And I was just starting to pride myself on how proficient I was at using the search function. Back to the drawing board. #ad

Yep, those G56's don't don't hold up, do they. :--)

I think you're onto something. I mean -- us dolts actually try to follow the shift pattern. When it's rotated 90 or 180 degrees, these G56's just don't shift too well... . #ad

My NV 5600 has made it around about 4 or 5 times. A little too slow for oil change intervals, I'll call the dealer about getting this slow thing replaced for one of the '05 upgraded fast spin models. :-laf

Everyone that drives it acts like its the biggest problem to shift without looking at that roadmap on the top of the shifter!

Is it the rubber vibration bushing at the bottom of the lever that spins or the actual shift knob. I think its the bushing.

If you do, be sure not to go with the G56 version. You'll have a tough time going backwards... #ad

Neither. It's the gear pattern insert within the shift knob. It's just a plastic insert that fits within a groove in the shift knob and rotates under the palm of your hand. Pop it out with a small screwdriver and either roughen up the lip that fits into the groove or use a small dab of silicone RTV - not too much if you ever want to get it out again to remove the shift knob!!

Carefully pry out the disk insert with a small flat blade driver. The edge of the disk sits in a grove in the rubber handle. Use a knife and make some slices around to serrate the edge a little. The slices won't show up since it will be in the grove and then put it back on. The disk won't rotate and you can easily remove it again in the future. If you glue or cement it in place, you may have a difficult time getting the disk off again without damaging the shift handle or disk itself.

I truly did a double- take. I thought that pattern looked strange, but then I realized it's a G56 :D

Kinda blurry too, but I 'ave tipped a few.

I replaced mine with a Coors Light bottle cap

TEE-

This was the best laugh I had all week! Do you think a bud bottle cap would work/ I don't think I could drink a coors even for a bottle cap.

thanks, that was great.
