Changing belts with engine running...never seen that done before!!

CMEP closing

I'm being told by some local guys and it's all over the net the EPA is cracking down, again. This time it looks really serious. They told me if I want the parts to delete my 2018 in the future, I better buy them now, before I can't.

I know this is a merry-go-round but what are you guys hearing?

There are a couple of new articles on the net of owners being fined and shops that have installed the parts getting hit also. I don't know if it is just internet banter or if it is actually happening.

Yes they have even look at boards like this to find tuners that advertise. Biggest issue is not the hardware but the software. It is pretty much a thing of the past now. The Rolling Coal Boys killed it for everyone. It is a fact and well documented/

They are looking at hardware also. Our son is the number 2 guy at a wholesale exhaust company and they received notice of an upcoming audit of their purchased and sales. Magnaflow and Flowmaster told them to cooperate fully with them.

Gotta justify your existence somehow. With Trump and company skimming the cream off the top things are really tightening up. Fill the coffers, demonstrate a "need" for your services. It's pure B.S.

Maybe I will pull the trigger on the delete parts here soon. I will not be buying another new truck, ever. I made that clear to the wife. Take care of this one.

But on the flip side the 1st-3rd gen's are going to only go up in value if people can not delete their newer rigs.

I am right there with you. My last truck was a 98 and I hope to keep this one as long, and quite honestly I don't like being tied to a dealership every little problem I have. So far the after treatment system has only cost me one trip there for a DEF injector and at around $600 it was the cheapest date I'll get from FCA. The dinners only get more expensive from there.
I'm really close to pulling the trigger on an MM3 tune. It is based on the Smarty touch and seems to be a solid unit with (at the moment) good support.

When I was at the John Deere dealer last night, one of the guys that works there was telling me that he just flew to Texas and brought back a rust free '05. He is getting rid of a 2011 I believe.

The technology has gotten better Wayne but everything breaks. As I said earlier, I don't like the prospect of being tied to a dealership indefinitely. Imagine taking your 04 in for something you could otherwise repair, I have a feeling it would be a cold day :D
Once the countdown timer begins the only way the flags can be reset is with witech. Something as simple as a DEF injector (already been down that road). I could actually stomach the up front cost of purchasing one, but it's the $2k a year subscription that makes it impossible for the Average consumer to own.

You’re right JR. I loath the day I can’t fix something, but it’s already happened. I’m still after the dealer to fix my Durango. They put a radiator in but I still smell coolant a year later.
ANYHOW.....
Who exactly said that the only way to reset a derate is with wi tech?

Pull the water pump. I can almost guarantee you that there are a couple of rough machine marks in the front of the block where the pump mounts. I had to clean them up on a 4.7L and I bet the 5.7l is machined the same.

@Wayne M. On mine the thermostat housing seeped some coolant, Chrysler changed the design of the seal, the new one looked different with ridges on both side were the old one have not.

To mention, the coolant seeped into a recess of the block, so smell yes, drops none.

Also i had a rusted through hose clamp at the rear heater units intake or outlet, check them to.

I spoke with Todd about this when my DEF injector went TU. He didn't know of any at the time. Also a friend with a mid range Snap On hooked to it and couldn't reset it after the replacement, I ended up taking it to the dealership for that.
I'd like to think the day will come when this changes but the 13's have been out 6+ years now....so who knows.

I wouldn’t consider that a total barrier. FWIK, you can reset the code, but you need a drive cycle to eliminate the message. I think that’s a OBDII Diesel rule. I know it’s true with Ford. I’ve done it- clear a code, drive cycle, message gone.
Far as my coolant chronicles, thanks for the tips but my nose tells me it’s up front. Point it that I honestly am trying to be a Danny Driver with this one. Frustrating! I could go on.

JR - I did pull the trigger on an MM3 with tuning from Double R Diesel. Also got downpipe back stainless flo-pro exhaust, EGR kit. Wanted to get the parts before you can't. Might not put them on right now, but down the road.

@Wayne M. - I don't know how satisfied I am with a 2018 50K truck that gets 15mpg. My my $4000 2002 gets almost 23mpg. That is pathetic. I would like someone to explain to me how burning significantly more fuel is better for the environment.

Eric, if you have an ‘18 pulling down 15 mpg running light as an average there’s surely something else going on. The SCR trucks should get great numbers! I know my work buddy with his ‘18 tradesman is quite happy with his.

If Todd sees this hopefully he chines in. All I can tell you is my experience with the 150 mile countdown, and I could not get the code to reset after def injector replacement. First tried my Scan Gauge, no dice, then my buddies snap on. A high dollar unit wouldn't clear the countdown, which continued over several restarts and 80-100 miles by the time I got it to the dealership. If there is a way to clear the hard codes I'd be all for knowing what it is.

That's exactly what I'm looking at. Had to sign up for the membership at igotacummins and am 95% sure I'm going to pull the trigger.
Did you buy the exhaust through him? Shibby plug kit? I've been price shopping some of these things.
