Denver Area
Where is a good diesel testing place in the Denver area? Last year I went to Diesel Testing Centers Inc. on Havana here in Aurora. I was not happy with being told to sit in the office because I could not be in the shop area. There was no windows to see what was happening and since it was January they closed all the doors.
After the test the guy said I passed with flying colors and handed me a paper to take the the DMV. The paper had no number/readings of opacity test. When I asked he said my truck was cleaner than most. Since the shop had a "kicked-back or relaxed" atmosphere I was curious to see if they bothered to check for the cat (since I so desperatly want to loose it), so I asked some vague questions on what they did. Guy said he did an inspection for emissions equipment. He said they have a book which lists all the emissions stuff that should be on each vehicle/model. I inquired about the cat and he said he looked to see if it was there, if not I would have 30days(?) or so to bring the truck into "compliance" and/or be fined. We talked about the cat and its necessity to pass emissions. The guy just laughed and said cats on diesels are a joke, they don't really work like they are suppose to and you can easily pass current emissions without one. However, since the truck came from the factory with a cat, it has to be there. Think he was on to me, cause he warned all shops will look for the cat and stiff fines can be imposed for missing or tampered emissions equipment. Scare tactic?????
For the resonator/muffler question. Neither is an emissions equipment so I don't think it will matter. I don't think the emissions centers are responsible for policing missing mufflers/noise control issues.
