Sam I think they are doing it to see how well the new flash is working. Funny thing thing they want to do it on a dyno and monitor emissions. EPA was convinced that it needed to be real life driving. I think that's how CARB did it and busted them.
I'm reading the book that tdr recommended, very interesting.

On emissions recalls the manufacturer is required to complete a certain percentage of the vehicle population. Failing to do so results in significant fines for not hitting the number. It is less expensive to entice the customer over paying fines.

I'd like to see an in depth real life driving emissions test on a 2018 gas truck that has 100k miles on it. My bet is the same mileage diesel will perform better even without this software flash...

EPA is looking at nox which gas vehicles can contain, diesels have a harder time doing.
Wouldbe nice if they were more transparent on the testing procedures.

NOx is one thing and only one pollutant, but I know for a fact that gas engine catalysts degrade quicker than our complicated emissions system on our diesels. You don't even need any special equipment, just a decent nose for smelling. A gas vehicle with 10k miles on it will have minimal odor. The same gas vehicle with 100k will stink. Seems like there is a lot of variance allowed with gas engines.

Just seems a bit suspicious the EPA is hammering only one fuel type.

We the people need to do something about it.

My question is, I had my DEF pump replaced last year do to it leaking and they state I could be reimbursed for the repair. That might be the only reason for having the 67A done. Since that bill was $2200! Glad to hear from another member that they haven't noticed any difference of DEF or power. Still on the fence, and need to hear some more from the 2013 -2016 crowd on their experiences with the 67A.

My letter arrived and page 2 has a claim form. I haven't noticed any difference with the recall done.

So I got the extended warranty notice, have not done either of the two updates mentioned yet. My concern is that if they have to extend warranty doesnt that mean that the update causes premature issues and thats why they need to warrenty?

My neighbors brother paid $6,700 on his 2014 a while back for SCR repair. He got the letter and sent his receipt in for reimbursement. They denied it because the repair was before the warranty extension was issued. I told him to file in small claims, I know he will win.

It's a shame that one would need to do this. It costs everyone money and time in the end.

Greetings; I'm NOT inclined to adhere to this emissions recall. I'm getting 23mpg @ 60mph, for 200 miles.

Now the question is: Am I eventually going to be guilty of a Federal Mandate/Crime? How far reaching is the FCA reporting to the Feds re: compliant customers & the "rebels".

Well reading the book on diesel gate VW offered the software update and a cardboard tube for airflow or it was a buyback.

I got to participate in VW's Dieselgate....made quite a bit of money from it....I bought a 2015 TDI Jetta late in the year, off the lot that had been there for a while at a pretty hefty discount. It's been a few years but if I remember right, I paid in the real low $20,000 range.....Drove it for a year and a half and the buyback was in the $27,000 range.:D

I know more than a few that took the fix which included $/VW credit and a nice factory warranty and then deleted when the warranty expired. Without getting into the weeds for or against the "dirty" word, I don't think the EPA takes into account just how many people they inadvertently push toward this route by forcing fixes and reflashes that often do not include longevity.
And really, just how good is it for the environment to send a car to the crusher before it's time and force the purchase of a new vehicle.....that's an oxymoron.....

Unfortunately we live in a disposable world. I'm guilty of it too. :(

Long gone are the days you open a TV set and you find the entire schematic paper glued to the inside of the TV cabinet to repair it.

The other problem is that we lost a lot of standardization too.

i just got a robo call this am about the recall. as a coincidence, i am getting the 67a done next week. ill take the extension of the warranty on those components. fine by me. cheers all!
