Can anyone help me sort out whether my '08 3500 needs the "Emissions Recall G30" I think that I have read in this forum and also in the last issue of TDR as stated on Page 43 of issue 59, " In late October Chysler LLC initiated "Emissions Recall G30," for all '07. 5 and '08 2500 and 3500 series trucks with the 6. 7-liter Cummins engines. " My Dodge dealer (Tucson Dodge) says no such recall exists for the '08 3500. They say they have checked my VIN number for the necessary recalls/reflashes, and that none exist for this unit. They also confirm that this recall has not already been completed on the truck. I'm a little confused and hope someone can help out about what's needed. They said if I could supply any additional documentation they would be willing to do more research.

If the dealer ran your VIN and it said no recall, don't worry about it. Do you not trust the information they gave you? Post the last eight of your VIN and I can verify.

I've got a new 5500 that seems to run out fine on the highway...

The back sags really bad with the truck at gross wt. . (19,500) it's really unacceptable because of the sag the lights are pointing to the sky... . this is the long wheel base truck with the load right behind the cab!!

I've added a spacer to cause the overloads to come on faster... square tube at the ends of the leafs to move the bumpers closer to the leafs... To make this clearer, the tube is mounted to the bumper mounts... . not the leaf... Can I assume that the dealer/DC will do nothing for me..... in addition we get a nice vibration at all speeds with a load... I assume this is the change in the driveline angles.....

Any suggestions would help... .

I don't think this applies to any 08's, but an easy way to tell is to look at your oxygen sensor module (little box on the frame rail on the passenger side) - if the p/n ends in AG or later then you don't need G30.

Had G30 done in Oct, a week after I took delivery. If truck was on the lot the recall might have been done before you got it or the manufacter date was late enough to have the new part used in original build

I'm surprised and disapponted. I haven't driven or ridden in a 5500 but I've driven two 4500s. They are so stiff I figured it was possible to load a small building on the rear. It sounds like Dodge needs a little more experience and refinement for their new cab and chassis trucks.

Maybe an additional leaf or two will cure your sag and later, maybe a new OEM spring pack when Dodge gets it right.

There are 08/s involved ;)

The old "truck books" from years past (90's) used to give spring deflection for a given weight, but I have not seen anything since the truck book was replaced by the upfitters guide. I do remember that the springs used to deflect a lot, so much that they were almost bottomed out at max GVW. I think this was to give the best all around ride. I recall my dads older Dodge trucks rode like s*&^ but the springs hardly deflected at all, even grossly overloaded.
I assume the vibration is most likely drive line angle, especially if it is only from launch to about 10 mph. I do not know if the launch shudder TSB still covers the 45-5500 but the theory is still the same. If it shudders loaded, shorten the center support bracket.
Sorry, read your post again and it says all speeds. Still must be drive line angle, but they generally only feel it at slow speeds.

I had the same problem with my 3500SRW. I added a set of air bags, the sagging rear end and headlight issue has been corrected. It's really an easy item to install.

good luck

sag2,

It is not easy to find, I stumbled upon the info by accident, but the outfitter's guide does show rear frame height unladen and at GVWR for the 3500/4500/5500 cab and chassis trucks. The height difference for a 3500 is a fraction less than 3" for the 3500, similar for the 4500 IIRC.
