2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ems offroad hub conversion

Just got an email from EMS. They are shooting to get the late model hub kits out 3-1-07.

I would have definately bought their kit over the DT kit because not everyone needs HD stuff... 30-spline outers and hubs would do 90% of the world just fine... and they were almost 50% less than the cost of the DT kit...



Which reminds me... I got to pull my one hub apart as it is tending to be very "sticky" in these colder than normal temps...

They have kits listed for 99 trucks. What changed from the 99 to my 01? They are also listed for ABS. Is this for 4 wheel ABS? How do you know if you have 4wheel ABS? I would rather save up for this kit, than to install the posi lock. Thanks, JC

ems conversion

I've completed the install, It went fairly well. My mechanic had all the right tools and that was well worth the 300. 00 labor he earned, the 35 splined outer axle yoke is larger than the stock inner axle yoke and that made the curb to curb wheel turn cause the yokes to bind we chose to tack weld a 1/4inch nut on the wheel stops rather than grind the yoke casting . After driving the truck 300 so miles I havent had a problem parking or turning to notice the slight loss in turning radius. This kit is nice; everything was top quality and Steve was there to answer my questions over the phone during the install. My normal round town mileage is consistantly 17+ the last fillup was 19+ needless to say I'm happy with the end results, I've priced out replacement hub bearings at $50. 00 per side so I feel the investment was worth it and I thank all the members for enlightening me . This group rocks!

Sorry I am late to the party. I have an EMS kit on mine too. Put it on a year ago. It has performed flawlessly. There were a few hiccups with the axle shafts for me. I believe I was one of the first to get the 35 spline inner and outer and I also had to wait for the seals but Eric made it right and answered all my questions. If the mileage went up I didn't notice much due to my lift and tires but after running it through saltwater and having to replace the bearings (because I was too lazy to check em when i got home from the trip) and it only costimg me 100 bucks I couldn't be happier. EMS makes a solid product and has EXCELLENT customer service.

If you do the kit keep in mind you will need a large allen wrench (I think it was 14mm) to torque the spindle bolts. I called my snap-on guy and he had one on the truck. It will need to fit your torque wrench to correctly install the kit.

we have around 20,000 miles on our ems conversion. working good for us. Installation had several minor hiccups, we got one of the first kits for the 03' model.
