What is the best enclosed car trailer for the money?

I was looking at a 24' interstate with the 5200# axles for $6200 brand new... ... . I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Anyone have any experience with these? (or another brand)

Thanks.

I bought a 26' Haulmark Elite II for the same kind of money. The box was 26' x 8''-6" (102"). Some makers sell length from the ball to the rear of the unit. It was built 16" O. C. everywhere, floors, walls, ceiling. Many others have some 24" O. C. spacing, even in the floors. I didn't have any water leaks at all.

I suppose the one you asked about is a tandem axle trailer and the GVWR is 10,000 lbs, and not a GVWR of 5,200 lbs. I made sure I got the 10,000 rated trailer instead of a 7,700 lb tandem axle trailer. Cannot comment on the model you are considering.

Wells Cargo has improved their line of trailers but they are still more money than I want to spend. They now include LED lighting but still use 24" OC floors. Featherlight was built close to my last home. They make all aluminum and some steel framed trailers. None of them come with any type of plywood lining to protect and prevent items from punching the walls from inside. An aluminum floor is VERY slippery when wet, Featherlight units.

Yes, The 5200# is per axle, the lighter one has two 3500# axles.

For the little bit more I would just get the 10000# gvwr one.

I think the 20 footer is out of the question, the Buick is too big. :)

Enclosed car trailer was a big, big puchase for me. Dreamed about one for years. Had to watch every penny, bought the cheapest I could, which in this area was an Interstate, 22' (plenty long for a Dodge Superbee), just the 7200# model. $4220 with tax/license in 1989. Has been a very good trailer, I keep it waxed religiously, still get good comments on it. I know there are better, stronger trailers out there, but this one has served me well for 13 years and I would buy another one.

I was excited about my first inclosed trailer too. I have 3- 68' camaros and wanted a great trailer and light too. I bought a Sooner trailer,it's all aluminum,24ft goose neck. It cost 18,500$. A heffty price for lighter weight but it holds its value too. So I wouldnt recomend thaat brand unless you have a ton of cash to go that way. I know a guy that has an Interstate and likes it and has had know problems with it. Good Luck.

New Haulmark

I just bought an 8' X 20' enclosed Haulmark for $4995. It has 7,700 lb payload. I shopped all over and this was the best bang for the buck. The floor and interior sides are not painted, so I'm painting floor black and sides gloss white.

The Car-mate has a better warranty w/ lifetime on the roof and the floor, five years on the axles, but was $5,800.

The best thing to do is compare prices/features. I called 5 dealers, and compared everything. Can't go wrong that way.

I painted the floor and walls of my trailer with industrial light gray paint. White gets dirty and looks like crap after not much time. I also put sand in my floor paint and on the back ramp for safety. Worked out very nice. I believe it was alkyld (sp) enamel.

Thanks for the info. I already bought the paint, but not too late to get grey. I once bought some really fine grain sand in a can especially designed to add to paint. Gotta try to find some Saturday.

i think one of those little pint cans of sand does a gallon. Very safe wet or dry. Have a helper constantly stir the sand into the paint while you roll. Otherwise it settles out of suspension. Only negative is i have heavy tools in the trailer and it makes them extremely hard to slide around. Although that is good during transport. Good luck.

I did a lot of shopping around for an enclosed trailer for my race car and I ended up buying an all aluminum trailer from the Aluminum Trailer Company. It is extremely well constructed and very light. I felt it was a much better trailer than the Pace or Haulmark which are steel and wood construction and the price was right in line with a similarly optioned out trailer of the other brands. Here is their web site address they also have an 800 # talk to Jeff. Tell him Rod sent you.

Good luck,Rod
