I am installing a 91 motor and 94 NV4500 into a 78 W300. The problem I have is, the clutch release forks hits the back of the 94 bellhousing. I have heard rumour that I may need a different engine adpater. Having talked to a few people the have installed the quad 4x4 and advanced adapter bell, I decided tp try the other route, costs alot less. Anyone know if the engine adapters are different between early motors and late motors?

from what I have checked in to you have to use the fork and all the clutch stuff from a 94 if you are going to use the 94 bellhousing I used the bellhousing from advanced adapters and and you can use all the stuff ffrom the first gen I got mine from there garage sale for $200 somthing the only thing rong with it is that it had a slight cast flow on the cylinder mount they had on on there again the other week you might check them out George

I have all the 94 and up accessories, I bought them from a wrecker for a $100 which included flywheel, bellhousing and clutch stuff. Trouble is it seems as though I am in 1" to 1 1/2" shy of clearance. I know there are 2 diff part num for the engine adapters.

that was a good price I am not sure on the adapter plate I know the first gen aout and stick are the same sure you have this right but I will ask any way do you have the slave coming in from the back on the 94 system George

Yes I am using the 94 slave. I have no idea what the earlier gen looks like. The setup was relatively easy to plumb in. Just had to reinforce the firewall so it didn't flex so much. The engine adapter is $180 from Cummins, I am thinking of buying it, but I have heard that I may have to replace the starter?

If it won't work, I would be interested in these parts.

The 94 and up engine adapter is about an inch thicker. I got mine from a salvage yard in Indiana for less than a hundred. Found it by using mypartshop.com and searching for 12v(94-98) engine assemblies. I called the shop that had the most instock units available and talked them into taking one off of a core motor. If you have a competant started & altenator shop near you you won't need to buy a new starter. They will be able to change the nose on your current one.

HTH.

Thanks, thats what was what I wanted to hear. I just bought the engine adapter from CUmmins for $160. I'll see if I can get the starter modified.
