Trans shop in San Diego

has anyone ever heard of motor silk it was on the news to night? the patent is held by us gov. it is added to engine, trans, rear end and fuel. it has been used by nasa and the military for 10 yars. it is to bond with the metal and will remove carbon, tarnish and corrosion. reduce friction by 85 % and wear by 90% and improve miliage by 5- 10%. one treatment lasts 100,000 miles. if it is 30 % true this is some snake oil. sorry i dont know how to a link but just type in motor silk. tell me what you think. robert

There are some pretty good threads on Bob is the Oil Guy on Motor Silk... I never read anything about it because I'm not into oil additives.

I like Steved, do not believe in oil additives, as all quality oils are formulatd with the proper additives to meet the API/SAE amd most OEM engine requirements. I might add, that the oil Companies spend MILLONS of Dollars, to pass the API/SAE MINIMUM requirements.

Additives either enhance basestock properties or add properties to the finished lube that the basestocks don't have. In all cases it is a balancing act, so sometimes adding another additive will upset the balance!

the claim is" its added to the oil but does not change the oil or any addative like power service you might have in your oil. its just there to treat the metal. you only put this in every 100,000 miles. robert

Sorta sounds like a Slick-50 knockoff to me...

If you run quality oil, you don't really need additives.

I have done the research and I also believe this about the 6. 7L. . Since it creates more soot and seems to create more oil problems I would suggest the following:

1) If you plan to keep the truck for a great while and lots of miles I would run a good quality syn. oil and install a bypass filter. That is your most critical thing. . Clean the oil.

2) If you are a trader every 2-3 years . . Run the cheapest DC approved oil you can find. Run it 7500 miles between changes and change filter ever 3. 5k.

The bypass filter is your best insurance.

The FS2500 is over priced. The new AMSOil remote bypass is the ticket at less than 300 bucks. :-laf

If you run the right kind of oil, coupled with the best filtration, you don't need "additives. " Oil isn't something that should need to be "fixed" in order to work properly. Buy a properly engineered oil that exceeds the need right out of the bottle, consistantly every time.

How about an EGR block off plate?

I too decided that additives were a waist of money. I run a good oil along with bypass filtration and have run up to 75k on a drain so it works for me. I now have 400k and all is well. I know there are some who have much higher miles with no bypass filtration but it sure makes me feel good to have it.
