Hi everyone!

Does anybody know the equivalent additional plunger lift at TDC you get when the KSB solenoid is active.

'93 W350 Club Cab, 5 sp. , Factory Options: Cummins Turbo Diesel (of course), LE package, 4. 10 axle ratio, limited slip, 7600 lb. rear springs, tachometer, front stabilizer bar. Modifications: Banks stinger plus (stage II powerpack), no load rpm @ 3250, max fuel on screw and max rate on diaphragm, Linex bedliner, 25,000 lb gooseneck ball Mopar 10,000 lb receiver, Tekonsha brake controller.

Sorry, can't say.

But, here's what is going on. At cranking, the advance won't move, either KSB in OR out. I'm not sure it moves much at idle, but it will move to max advance way earlier than otherwise. Advance movement on that engine is really quite small. I don't know what it is in degrees, but I'd guess 3 or 4? That's pump degrees, which is doubled for the engine.

Out of curiousity, why do you want to know?

Thanks Power Wagon for your response. Four degrees at the pump is what a local Bosch Dealer said also but he could not convert that to plunger lift at TDC. You're also right about no advance until the engine is running. The Cummins service manual states that timing is fully advanced (even at idle) with the KSB on. When it's off normal advance occurs which the book states as full advance in at 60% of rated speed. The reason I want to know is this: The power is much better when the device is on (the truck has good power anyway) and I have read posts that that may just be a coincidence with the cold engine when the KSB is on. I jumpered wired my KSB when the engine was hot and got boost up from 21 to 23 psi (wastegate opening at 23 psi) and the very good acceleration increase.

The KSB increases (doubles to 116 psi) the pump internal housing pressure to accomplsh its job and so just running with it on all the time is not a good idea. I have the Cummins timing gauge
and have used it to set the pump to 1. 35 mm lift at TDC when Ireinstalled the pump but it seems the engine is definitely wanting more advance. The local Bosch dealer said 'yeah these engines are spec'd on the retarted side try . 2 mm more. ' I wanted to know how much the KSB does, on an equivalent basis, to get an idea what the . 2 mm will do. Mileage is 13. 5. It has been that from bone stock through the mods and rebuilt pump. I figure that may be another indication of more advance needed.

I would suggest your TDC pin is probably off. I would not exceed 1. 35 by very much. The engine will tend to smoke more, and may lose fuel economy. Instead, try to fix it more accurately at the 1. 35, instead of simply moving it and trying it with your "seat of the pants" dyno.

The procedure (perhaps you can follow the reasoning and figure out a way to do it yourself) is in the thread about the hot '93 truck.

Thank you very much mark for the very well laid out procedure on finding true TDC. It makes perfect sense to me. I now remember that there was a discusson in the forum about you giving out a certain
part numbers for injectors and it caused you some problems. I would like to post a question in the forum if 'anyone' remembers those numbers if you wouldn't have any problems with that. I could not find the discussion in the first gen archives.

I'm sure somebody around here's got the numbers. Try asking in the "product" forum or maybe email some requests. That's not a public broadcast of part #'s so you might have more luck #ad

Hey Mark93!

Just a guess here, but the thread of Power Wagon's you were inquiring about might be "Injector observations on a 93... " Authored by Power Wagon on 01-22-2000 from the Dewey Decimal system of Keeno's large 3 ring binder.

Thanks Keeno.

Looks like the thread "disappeared" from the site. I ordered a set of the neeto injectors yesterday. Thanks again for the research!

'Power Wagon' injectors ordered!
