Engine almost Dies then doesn't start!

At start up, enging fires over runs for 5seconds then drops RPMs to the few hundreds for a couple of seconds and then back to normal idle. Any help is appreciated. Gabe

Now after letting sit for 8 hrs, truck wouldnt start without my foot on the gas?????? And now runs fine!?!?

does it miss or stumble? is it throwing a code?

sounds to me as though your fuel line is loosing it's prime when shut off. it should stumble if this is the case.

Have you checked the rubber fuel lines that run from the frame mounted hard lines to the engine? These have a history of cracking and bleeding out the prime of the fuel. You will have an increasingly harder and harder time getting them to start.

It stumbles periodically just after start up or as I am decelerating to a stop. I haven't noticed any wetness anywhere unusual.

Air leaks don't necessarily cause wetness. In fact, most of the time you can't see an air leak. The lines can look just fine and be completely dry.

Now whenever I startup, I have to reach in and put my hand on the pedal to keep the truck running. Also when I am braking and making a 90 degree turn she almost dies. Does this sound like the symtoms of bad fuel lines? I don't want to put parts where they are not needed.

I am assuming that you haven't changed the fuel lines yet. It will become progressively worse as the lines deteriorate. Also as this progresses, your fuel filter will most likely get clogged and so can the prefilter down by the fuel heater. You really need to change the lines if you haven't done so yet. If you don't think its the fuel line, that you need to check your fuel pressure at the Injection Pump while you're driving. To me it seems easier to just replace the line rather then go through the hassle of pumbing in a pressure guage. JMHO.

I haven't replaced them yet, I didn't want to be stuck in my driveway at midnight trying to put my truck together b4 morning. How long did it take you to replace your lines?
