 99 ram 2x4 3500 drw engine is missing at all rpm ranges had it at the dealer they said nothing was wrong. the miss is uneven and it shakes truck

I can feel a power surge. it also does not seem to do it first 5-10 minutes at idle . as you can feel it more at idle. also tach not registering properly

Check all your grounds... battery and block, take them off and clean them.

Also, use some dielectric grease on all connections.

You could also have a bad APPS sensor, or a crank position sensor.

You might also want to check and clean the IAT sensor. I drove a '99 that had a similar miss and that was the cure for it.

say iwas wondering if a crank position sensor was acting up would set off a check engine light or not and where is the apps sensor located what does it do

The APPS sensor is located under the half dome black cover in front of the intake horn. This has your go-fast pedal cable, kick down and cruise control cable hooked to it. It sends a signal to the VP / ECM. (not a servicable part)

There is an APPS reset procedure, but not sure how it's done.

Reset APPS:

Disconnect batteries for minimum of 45 minutes per DC manual.

Reconnect, turn key on - do not start.

Press go pedal slowly to floor, release slowly.

Turn key off.

Done...

I had this problem about a month ago. Engine was missing and the tach wasnt registering properly (would bounce every once in awhile). No check engine light and no codes set. Seemed to get worse the longer the truck was run. Driving home from work one day the tach dropped to zero for a few minutes and then came back up. Check engine light finally came on at that point but the next day the light was off. I stopped by the neighborhood dodge dealership who diagnosed it as the Crank Position Sensor. Replaced it with a new sensor and the problem was fixed. Seems like these sensors can fail but not go out completely to the point where it will set a code.

99 not running well?

do you have access to a multi meter for I could give you info for testing the APPS one of the ccts that I suspect that is bad. Look up anatomy of an APPS and this will help. but I have specs from cummins that may help. good luck.
