I haven't read where any 1998. 5 have had problems with the 53 blocks. Is this something I just missed or does the problem occur only on the 99s and later models?

98. 5 SLT Laramie 5 speed, US Gear exhaust brake, fuel pressure gauge, 2WD

I also have a #53 block in a 98. 5 and 100,000 miles no problems yet (knock on wood) I have installed 65hp EDM injectors, Edge Comp, AFE intake system, and a Dunrite transmission complete. The only problems was with torque converters until I got this Dunrite unit. Lifetime warranty on the converter and 3 yrs or 100K miles on the transmission. Call Rip at Source Auto in Portland Oregon. if you are in need of one. I have no part of his business but he's really treated me fair.

53 block

Hey guys,

What is a 53 block, it doesn't sound like you guys are thrilled about it. I am thinkin about buying an older (being 2nd gen) truck and have never heard of it. Is it a big problem, or what's the deal? Thanks for any input.

Do a search on 53 blocks on this site, and you will find more info then you want to know. I've personally seen two 53 blocks fail, and leak in the exact same place. I temporarly fixed my 53 bloc, but after5 monthes it started to leak again. By looking at it, it seams that it cooked the sealant out of the LockNStitch repair, and it's leaking from that. I am in the process of replacing the motor right now with a Mexico cast block.
