OK,

After weeks of waiting, I finally received my block heater cord from DC. Of course, it came entirely without instructions.

I did a search on the forum and there has been a lot of talk, but couldn't find an answer to my question: Where does the connector and barbs on the wire go? Does anyone have a picture they can post or PM me?

I'm not as dumb as I appear, it's just that I didn't want to crawl around in the cold without having some idea where I was looking.

Thanks in advance - you guys are a real lifesaver!

Well, I've had the truck in my possession for about 48 hours total, but the reason it is in the shop is to replace the damaged block heater wire. It comes directly out of the front of the fan and is routed down the inside of the radiator and comes out at the bottom of the fan shroud on the passenger side of the bottom. There is a couple of clamps to secure the attacted cord to route it to the front of the vehicle. Good luck.

Not the block heater cord.

The wire that goes to the fan clutch is NOT the block heater cord. It controls fan clutch engagement. The block heater cord is completely separate.

JRMora,

The block heater is located next to the oil filter. As far as the barbs are concerned their are 3 holes in the passenger side frame rail (inside) that are used. I will take some photo's tommorow and post them for you.

As promised I took some photo's and they can be viewed in my readers rig gallery.

I hope this helps you guy's.

bgilbert, heater cord plug

Bought,my cord about 2 weeks ago from cummins dealer here in michigan. $17. 64 out the door. Dealer wanted $30. 00,his were on back order:--) coobie

Thanks guys. Reason I ask is I happened to come across a new block heater cord off an 03 when I hauled engines out of Cummins in Columbus,IN. Just wondering what it's worth. Bill

Does anyone know the part# for the Cummins cord?

Yeah, who knows the part number? I just plugged mine in to try it on the new truck and the "magic smoke" came out. You know - as long as that magic smoke stays inside electrical devices, they work fine, but as soon as it gets out... . :-laf

There was a little smoke and sizzle, then nothing. I'll check resistance on the element, but I imagine I'll need a new cord. Thanks for any info.

I was at the dealer this morning the part # 5086737AB. This particular dealer wanted $39. 95... . I don't think so... . Anyone know anybody cheaper?

I think I paid $9 invoice when I ordered my truck. Good excuse to order a new truck :D

I visited 2 dealers today across town from each other. One wanted $67, the other $45. I stoped at NAPA and they showed me several in the $15 range. they look pretty standard, although I do not want to buy an unusable one. The Cummins part # would be Handy.

BTW I think it is BS to have to buy the truck one piece at a time!!! It's like giving you the air, and then selling the tire as an afterthought.

Cummins Part Number

I purchased the cord from Cummins, Part # 251919. Don't need it here, but we are traveling up north for the Holidays. Came to $11. 65 with shipping right to my front door. I ordered it from Cummins Southern Plains in Round Rock, TX. Hope this helps... . Robert

Artic leash

JC Whitney sells a recoil Extension that you mount on frame behind bumper. You plug Block heater into it and it becomes a recoil like a trouble light. (Called Artic Leash)

Comes in two lengths, I bought the twelve foot should have bought the longer one. I just pull cord out from hole that was in bumper and plug in,when done just let it reel itself back. I have to admit though I use the Espar more than the block heater.
