Engine Block Heater

Do all of the new '06 trucks come with the engine block heater? I have a new '06 but the invoice does not show the heater. I know some that have it show just a $10. 00 charge on the window sticker. Is it just a matter of installing a heater grid cable like Geno's sells?

Yes from what i was told all CUMMINS engines come with the block heater its just a matter of buying a grid cable for it... Hope that helps... If i'm wrong someone will correct me

ehh... so. . i am assuming that this is right since nobody corrected you... lol... anything special about this cable or can i cut up an extension cord and make one... yes, i know it would have to be a nice heavy duty cord, but i doubt the cord the dealer sells is inexpensive...



im moving to PA this month, so i think ill be needing one soon...

They all come with a grid heater. The grid heater is what heats up the intake air when its cold out.

All Cummins engines sold to Dodge have the block heater installed. But, most are not optioned with the heater cord so that you can actually use it.

The cord is around $20 from a dealership if you do not have one.

Installation of the cord is about 10 minutes.

Actually, the cord costs $30 - $40 at the dealer. Cummins will sell you one for $13 - $15.



The only difference is the one from the dealer will have the little clips to attach the cord to the truck frame. If you buy from Cummins, use ty-wraps.

The Cummins cord would be much better than trying to fab on up on your own. It just plugs in and really doesn't cost that much.

I've travelled virtually everywhere in the US, including Alaska, and used the block heater in my '98 very few times. I never bought a cord for my '06 because, living in CA, we don't need it unless travelling in one of those icy states, in the dead of winter. The few times I really needed it, I wasn't near electricity or had forgotton to plug in.

I was reading other threads on the no block heater cord for 06's and someone mentioned you can get them from Napa. I went to Napa and the guy couldn't figure out which cord would work. Does anyone know the part number?

http://www.powerstore.cummins.com/ I believe they have a parts section in one of their buttons. Been a while since I was there checking things out. At least it will get you to a 'contact us' button to get directions to where to get the cable. I hope this helps. I also consider one of those nifty receptacle Genos offers. I used to live in PA, the salt they use on the roads during the winter is really corrosive to everything. The receptacle box will keep the corrosion down some.

I ordered the cord from local dealer this morning. The part # is 5086737AB and list price is $47. 88. I got a helluva discount though which brought the price down to $44. 88 and with the taxes here in Texas it came to $48. 55 total out the door. I did find the heater in the side of the block and I don't think you could "just make a cord" for it. It has round male pins inside which are about 1/4" in diameter. bg

Does anyone has a picture of this cord? I just bought an 06 Mega Cab. I could not find the cord that suppose to come with the truck. The sticker on my truck is listed as engine block heater included.

I don't have a picture, but it should be pretty easy to find. Look around the air filter box. Mine sits behind the grill, draped over the intercooler hose. This end is a standard 3-wire 110v AC plug.



If you still can't find it, crawl under the truck. The heater is on the passenger side of the block, near the oil filter. If the cord is there, you should be able to trace it to find the other end.
