I have an 04. 5 CTD- Cali Version, w/ no block heater. First diesel I've had w/o one. Does anyone know the part #'s from Dodge so I can install it?

Are you sure it's actually missing the block heater and not just missing the cord? I was under the impression that all the engines had the block heater and when you ordered the heater option they just added the cord.

Cords are available from dealers and many Internet sources. Google it.

I believe that all the 3G engines come with the block heater. You should only need to purchase and install the cord. You should be able to get the cord from a Cummins dealer or a Napa parts store for significantly less than the dealer will charge. I think the dealer is around $50 or $60, less from one of the others above.

JHawes,

Both of the first two answers are correct. The heater plug is difficult to see from above. It is easily seen from below on the exhaust side of the engine just to the rear of the oil filter. It is covered with a screw on plastic cap with threads if not used. There are two prongs inside the electrical contact plug for a heater harness. Unless ordered from the factory, this is left off. These blocks come with the heater element assembled.

Like CSkal said, the dealer will hit you up for $50-$60 for a cord that cummins will charge you about $15 for.

I purchased the factory cord since it already had the clips on it. I know I paid more for it, but I took the easy way out.

I also ordered the "wigidigit" thingamajig from genosgarage.com to make it easier to plug in. Works good. I also bought a high amperage timer to plug into also.

I usually run it for 4 hours before I leave for work in the morning.

Good luck.

Edit: I wouldn't have known about all of this stuff without being a member of the TDR. If it wasn't for the $35. 00 membership, how would I have known to spend more money on my CTD. :)

Stupid question, but can I can start the truck while the cord is plugged in? I always remove the cord before starting, but I'm not sure about the wife!

While the truck will start with it plugged in - it is NOT recommemded, you can burn up your heater if air bubbles get circulated passed it while plugged in, during initial crank and engine start.

Anyone have a pic showing how they fastened the Cummins cord? I used zip strips and it's kinda ugly. I know the Mopar cord has the clips, but I can't see paying 3X the price.

Im Kind Of Confused. . I Need To Get One For My Truck Its Getting Cold Outside. . Does The Widgit Tingamaggiy From Geno's Come With The Cord To Plug Into The Heater Element In The Block Or Is It Just A Holder For A Plug That I Got To Buy From Dodge Or Cummins Anyways? Is It Worth The 35 Dollars Ontop Of The Price Of The Cord Regardless Of Which Place I Buy It From??thanks Again Fella's

The Widget thingamajiggy does not include the cord, it just makes it convenient, at least for me anyways. I tried it without it and it works ok, but it just works easier with it, that is, I don't have to fish for the cord. I initially had the end zip tied to the passenger side tow hook, but I just didn't like that for long term usage.

I want heat, and I want convenience. Those reasons alone justified it to me.

If I have the truck for 8 years like I had my previous truck. That means total cost per year for the cord and plug would be like $10. 00 a year.

It works for me, maybe not others.

i just bought a 14 footer from a cummins parts store for 34 dollars. this way i was able to mount it by the drivers side of the bed. once i have time to go buy a portal style receptical, ill mount it in the front of the lower portion of the bed. then its in the middle of the truck and ALWASY by the drivers door. easy to plug in and unplug in a hurry.

I waved the Purchase survey in front of the sales managers face and he handed me a cord! Now I have to install it but well worth it.

factory cord- $0

taking $ from the dealer- $30 (dealer cost on the cord)

Seeing the face of the sales manager when I walked through the door with a survey in hand - PRICELESS :-laf
