CBrahs,

Please educate me... . what is a Purchase Survey, how do I get one and what shutter speed should I use to capture the sales manager's face?

Fred

It's a questionnaire from D/C about your purchase of a new vehicle. You should get one in the mail about 60 days from the purchase. Evidently, what you write on the survey carries some weight. I have my doubts, but the sales people act like it does.

I received one after I purchased my '03.

My wife recently bought a new Honda Odyssey and the salesman "coached" her on how to fill out the survey. I helped my cousin buy a '07 Honda CRV last week and the salesman asked her to fill out the survey in a "positive" light.

Detroit's Big 3 dealers certainly could learn from the Honda folks. It's like night and day buying at a Honda dealership. No hassle, no pressure, no BS!

At what kind of temps are you guys finding the need to plug your trucks in at?

I have a 04 living in S. IL we have a few days a year that it drops below 0 deg. Should I be pluging mine in?

I have an 04. 5 CTD- Cali Version, w/ no block heater. First diesel I've had w/o one. Does anyone know the part #'s from Dodge so I can install it?

The block heater should already be installed. My '05 came that way and all I had to do was install the power cord I bought from Cummins for about $20.

Ok, guys, my '06 CTD is a mere FOUR DAYS OLD, and it did not come with the engine block heater CORD. It did come with the engine block heater. I called Cummins Northwest to see what they charged for a cord => around $45, but they didn't have it in stock. I called my local dealer, they DID have it in stock, but no surprise they wanted $58! I said, if you match the Cummins NW price, I'll be there in 30 minutes. They said OK! Got it, and came home to install it, since we have had some chilly temps here at night, like 10 degrees F -- I wanted a warm block! Posts above are DEAD ON, the heater is located just behind the oil filter on the passenger (exhaust) side of the block, under the exhaust manifold. It is covered with a shiny black threaded plastic cap. I had to access it from below the engine, but I did not jack the truck up, just slid under the truck with my man dolly (that sounds scary!). The cord is a really nice unit, and like others have said, has the little black clips that are attached at very specific locations on the plug wire. These clips match small holes IN THE FRAME that they can be pushed into to secure the cord. Works freakin' awesome. The farthest end of the cord comes out of the truck just above the bumper but below the bottom & passenger side of the grill. Took me, a sorry excuse for a mechanic, only about 30 minutes to figure it out! The block was nice and warm in the morning! Yee-haa, Have fun!

OK-go into your local Cummins Distributor and ask for a 251919. This is the heater cord. Unscrew the protective cap and plug in the cord. Tighten the big nut to secure the cord and then run the 500 foot cord to a handy place!

Thanks for the help guys. I live in the hills of central Cal and it only gets in the low 30's here. However, if I have to leave at 4 in the morning, it's kind of nice to have warm heater right away. If not, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get some warm air blowing.
