One day after changing oil and filter, the engine block light on my dash came on. What could this mean? and is it safe to drive until I get it to the shop?

That's a check engine light. You can do and OBD II scan to get the codes for what is wrong. Try putting your key in the ignition turn the key to the run position without starting it, turn the key back one notch then back to the run position. Do this one more time. On the third time that you put it in the run position, watch your odometer. The codes will flash in there. Record the numbers that you get and post them.

Hmm. There should be more than that. The 1693 is just a fault code that is telling the ECM that there is a problem in the ECM. They are two totally different modules. One controls just the engine the other takes care of the rest of the power train

I just spoke with Cummins about this. He said P0128 is "engine did not warm up in time required. "

How do I clear the code? I disconnected both batteries for one hour but that didn't clear the codes. Even my radio station presets were still stored.

I saw something recently that stated that you should "key on, key off" three times with the batteries disconnected to help clear codes.

I haven't tried it myself yet.

Might be worth a shot.
