Had the first rodeo of the spring semester this weekend, reminded me of something. I pull a trailer with 5 horses and gear in it, and that reminded me of how much I would like a exhaust brake.

However, I know they don't make one, but I was wondering how many of you would prefer or actually buy an engine brake for the 5. 9 cummins if it were available?

On a side note, last year we had 2 rodeos, at both I only spotted one Duramax, pulling a big fancy trailer(four horse slant with large living quarters). Anyway, I was pleased to find that it had been replaced with a sharp red dually Cummins. The Cummins population was unbelivable, it looked like a TDR get together. There were fewer fords than last year, probably replaced with dodges, but I spotted at least 6 or 7, (out of probably 60 or 70 rigs at least) and only one chebby. A half ton gasser that pulled a little trailer. Dodge is definately the college rodeo choice:D

Included with some nice looking trucks were some really sharp looking female drivers... :D :D

There are a number of makers of exhaust brakes for our trucks and they work great. BD, Pac, Jacobs and more that I cant think of

Chris, Cummins does make a 5. 9 with a Jacobs engine brake built in. Dodge in their infinite wisdom has decided we don't need one, we're stuck with add on exhaust brakes, which work almost as well.

I've got a Pac-Brake on mine....

... and it works good on some of these 8-10% grades around here(western Md. )at max. g. v. c. w... ... Doug

Illflem, you say Cummins DOES make the 5. 9 with a true Jake Brake?? Is it a B or ISB? If they do make it for the 24valve, we oughta be able to purchase heads with the Jake from Cummins. I've looked and couldn't find anything.

jake brake?

I have a pacbrake now and it works like a charm I should have had one on previous trucks and it sounds good but if they did make a true jake brake for the 5. 9 engine and it was afordable I would deffenitly think real hard about one it would sound even better!:)

I had the fortune of holding the casting for an engine brake for what looked to be our engines, I was told that it was for the 5. 9. Unless you want to cut the cowl area and part of your windshield, the unit will not fit our Dodge trucks.

If I remember correctly, the casting was about 3" tall, and fits on top of the head. And yes, it was for a 24 v.

Again, this is from info I received while I was working on some packaging for the casting.

Steve, I'll tell you first hand about using an exhaust brake on wet roads... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... can you say sideways? I just about pooped myself when it happened, luckily I was empty and solo (ie. no trailer) I would have jack knifed if I was hooked.

sideways !

Dodge Ram sideways !:-laf I LOVE it Oo.

I scared the poop out of a hitchhiker when I was getting on the highway the other day. It was a bit wet and I purposely nailed it and all of a sudden this big Dodge beast was headed right for him.

Priceless! I'll never forget the look on his face. And my buddies in the truck bought the rest of the day's beer. :D
