engine alone being broken in?, or entire new drivetrain? [engine/trans/differentials]

engine alone: get engine to operating temp and as soon as that is reached, 20-30 minute run on chassis or engine dyno making rated power and varring engine speed through the torque rise. .

all new drivetrain: read owners manual. it tells you basically what is a compromised way to break in all drive train components at the same time

Can't tell you what the recommended ones are, but mine is 300-400 miles of regular driving then hitch up the fiver and start climbing hills at WOT.

My '03 woke up real quickly this way.

I believe the offical word from Cummins was something along the lines of "Drive it like you stole it!" :D :D

My truck had 20 miles on it when I bought it and I had it hooked up to a flatbed with a 2500 4x4 CTD QC heading 500 miles south by mile 21!

74K now, no problems, great milage.
