Check engine light just came on with this code: P0483



Cooling Fan Rationality Check Malfunction



Anyone out there able to shed some light on this?

This code is set when the actual fan speed doesn't match the demand fan speed. Could either be a faulty wire somewhere, or a bad fan drive.

As a quick check on the fan drive, grab the blades and try to free-spin the fan. If it doesn't have any drag on it, then the fan drive is bad. Dodge says 5 complete rotations when you do this is a sure sign the drive is bad.

The diagnostic manual concentrates on faulty wiring between the fan drive and the ECM. You might trace the wiring harness from where it leaves the fan. It runs down the radiator in a plastic shroud to a connector on the bottom passenger-side corner of the radiator. Check that connector for corrosion and damage, and check to see if any wires have rubbed themselves open on the radiator.
