Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Engine Compartment Light

Well since I purchased the truck in May 2009 I have not had an engine compartment light. So today I went to West Marina and bought an LED Bulb #529414 (34. 99) and it works great. For a small light it does light up most of the engine area. Before this truck I had a 2004 Jeep TJ that also had a bad engine compartment light and never got around to fixing it before I sold it. I never heard of Chrysler being known for compartment lights (LOL). Hope you all find this helpful I will try and take a picture of it later tonight.

Cool... . that it works I just had a lot of problems with my jeep engine compartment light that I wanted to try something different. In the future I plan on slowly adding leds to each light that blows out.

Interesting I will have to try and find that post. I purchased a chepo LED light from Walmart and it can be charged in my cig lighter. Cheap Bright Led Light

My '88 Silverado has a under hood light with retractable cord...

Ditto. You can get these for a buck or two at the U-pull-em wrecking yards. They are a breeze to install. Easy to put into a car that never came with one. For the really adventurous, with a couple of AA batteries and a carefully selected bulb, you can install them in clothes hampers, toy boxes, dog doors, toilet seats, mail boxes, and what-have-you. You are limited only by time, space and your imagination. :-laf



When the plastic housing in my Dodge's under hood light crystallized from the Arizona heat, that's what I replaced it with. An old one off a middle 80s beige and yellow Buick with exploding seats. Cost me two bucks installed, all in. And, get this! When the bulb burns out, you can replace just the bulb! You don't need to replace the $20 assembly.



Can't blame Dodge for this, really. All new ones use cheap plastic now. Saves weight. But it allows us trips down wrecking yard memory lane(s).

So it would not burn out I unplugged my under hood light when I bought the truck. No sense in it being on during the daytime.

I noticed on mine if I leave it pluged in that on bumpy roads at night I can see it flicker on and off. Really annoying.

I have one of these things, and it's by far the handiest LED light I've ever used for working under the hood. The legs bend any way you want, and has very strong magnets on the end, so you can put it anywhere, and it stays there. I've also used it for things like chaining up at night. Simply stick it to the fender, and you can see what you're doing while still having both hands free.
