Thanks, TDR Staff

There's not enough H. in the O. of my Cummins H.O.

What is the clock spring that everyone is mentioning?

Does a typical Dodge dealer have the equipment and capability to readout the ecm to correctly diagnose a low power or high fuel consumption problem on a Cummins 24v?

If you take it in and say, I think you need to check my ECM, then they will probly give you a reflash which is VERY BAD. Dodge is not to keen about meddeling around with the ECM. The thing you got to remember is that this is a DODGE engine made by Cummins, so we do not get what the engine is capiblity of doing in these industry applications.

My experience is that if the truck rolls in under it's own power and the scan tool doesn't spit out an error code, they are going to say nothing is wrong with your truck, no matter how badly it runs.

Its not always a "bad" thing. I got flashed and it didn't "hurt" anything. Fuel milage has always been low due to my foot, but I have had a couple places say "thats the strongest stock truck we have drove". I had my PE removed for warrenty work (for about 4000 miles), so the only thing present on the truck was 4" exhaust and shift kit in transmission. Needless to say when two different places told me this, made me very happy.

RAMBOAT:

If I understand your response correctly, you are saying that Dodge dealers DO have the capability to readout the ECM. But reading between the lines, you seem to imply that the ECM/dealer read equipment measures only a limited number of operating parameters or is not very effective?

I don't really think anything is wrong with my truck, I was just curious because I've read a number of posts by owners reporting or suspecting that their power and fuel economy were down and looking for solutions. If the dealer reads the ECM and says, "there's nothing wrong with your truck" what do you do next?

I am getting about the same fuel mileage as you. I would expect better as I get more miles on my truck, I only have 9200.
