My neighbor has a 92 Cummins and his fan just crapped out. He checked with Dodge to the tune of $185. . Is there a less expensive alternative or is that the way to go. I have looked through the threads and have seen many comments but none that can help make up my mind. Does Cummins have these fans? Are they cheaper. Thanks for the help.

AFAIK, Cummins doesn't do the fan.

The new clutch & fan combo Dodge started stocking a few years ago is much better than the NAPA alternative. BTDT.

The last one I bought was from Cummins and it was $40 cheaper than the dealer. Its worth checking to see what kind of deal they will give you.

An alternative is to install an electric fan. A friend here with a second gen did that conversion a couple of years ago. He used a dual fan setup from a boneyard buick. One fan was tied to a thermal switch, the other was wired to run whenever the A/C was on.

It worked great and was cheap to install.

The new fan and clutch from the dealer is an update. I did mine and the ac performed the way it should and the water temp never gets over half pulling the heaviest of loads. Tell him to spend the money and enjoy the ac. SteveinAZ
