I stuck a piston about a week ago. Truck is in Bend, OR. I live in OK They are going to send the injection pump to Oregon Fuel Injection in Eugene per my request to have the DVs replaced, and injectors rebuilt. My question is... ... I need to tell them how I want them to set everything up, and now I turn to yall. stock pump, #10 BD plate, super B turbo. I want good fuel milage, I don't need gobbs of power, say around 330-360 HP. I would like it to pull though. What should I do. Bigger DVs/ injectors. I had a bit of a thermal problem, and thats why its in the shop... I think, also bad water pump. I want to keep EGTs to a sane level. what is the best combo. Thanks...

With 191 DV's, the 10 plate, and even stock 215 injectors you should be at 350 HP easy. The super B should keep that cool enough. If you want you can get DDP2 injectors and probably be around 400 HP with the plate full forward, now that power the super B is gonna have trouble keeping cool... . but something like the HTB2 will cool that with ease. Maybe even consider the 12cm housing on it to keep driveability nice.

Does the stock 215 pump have 191 DV's. I am going to have pump set at 17* advance. How does that sound. PS... I use this truck for farm pulling and daily driver, my main concern are EGT's under load.

You didnt have a problem with #6 did you? If so, there is a cooling fix for that, somethin about removing the freeze plug and tapping it out to accept a fitting, then routing it somewhere in the cooling system. I heard that from another thread, just havent got time to research it... Might be a good idea to search on it, could save ya from problems later. .

I've heard good things about the DDP injectors, theyre good for fuel mileage (better spray pattern). What are you doing about the headgasket while its off? Might be a good idea to get it ringed. Is Oregon injection going to balance the pump for ya also?

good luck

Yes it was #6 piston. I to have heard of the freeze plug thing and am going to pursue that when I get the truck back. About the head gasket. The mechanic said the new gasket will be good to 60 psi boost (I kinda laughed at that one), so for now until i get the MULA to do it myself the boost will stay under 48 psi.

What is a good injector to go with the 181's. How are the stock injectors, I had the idea of getting them rebuilt and the pump calibrated and so on. is this a wise setup. I would like to be able to slide the #10 plate full forward and not have to worry about it. Thats a little more power than what I need. I had the truck set like this for a day and tore one of my trailers up with it. Way to much pull for a loaded gooseneck. I know what this engine is capable of, now I just need to pull the rains back on the ponies and get it reliable. Oo.

I think I will lean toward this combination of poison. I just need to know where to put the plate.

IMO, 191's are a bad option, for what you say you want! You already have 181's, the 191's will add power but with lots more egt's and smoke. You can make a clean 300+ rwhp without injectors or D. V. 's easy with a 215 pump! You need to decide what you want, over 500rwhp yea think about D. V. 's otherwise forget it. Have them balance the pump with a 10 plate centered you'll be around 300 and can slide it from there.

Now for my next trick

Ok. I like that idea better. Thanks for the input. I am going to say it now, and forever hold my peace... ..... Drum roll please... ... . I am going to stop with the #10 plate centered. I will just have to get another truck to play any further..... horsepower goal reached--- 320-340 hp  . dyno will tell the tail. Thanks for your help.

If it's for work stay away from the dyno. It only costs you more $$$$ :D If it works for you call it good no matter the dyno number otherwise you won't be holding your peace for long ;) . Good luck to ya. .
