Is anyone using a tank type engine heater that splices into the heater hose ? I bypassed the metal pipe that go's from near #1 injector to heater control valve. Wired the valve open. The zero start tank heater with thermostatic control gets hot, but only heats hose up to front of head. The rest of engine stays cold ? Is their no way for coolant to circulate with thermostat shut ? Any idea's ? It hasn't got above 10 daytime temp for week or so, an am running low on beer. Help !

Also, how the H... do you get those smilies into the post ? thanks, Will

Put your cursor on the smilie, and left click! :) When I put those on, I ran a hose from a hole on the block down low, to the cold side of the heater. Then I spliced to the heater line. I can't remember which one, but the water has to be able to go up and down thru the block. Like hot side in bottom, then cold out from heater line. It will work the other way, as long as it can circulate. Inline in the heater hose won't work.

I relearned the hard way on a grocery run " inline in the heater hose won't work " 10 deg inside cab and out :( Can't find a schematic of water flow on the CTD. I put 2 T's in heater hose that connects to shut off valve, an plumbed the tank heater in. Now the cab heater works again. Oo. Tank heater seems to heat top of engine, but not below head. I would like to make this work as I have several of these heaters on the shelf. Also 2 maybe 3 of my CTD all have bad block heaters. Cords are all good.

Smilies work! :D Hot water comes off the top of the head, to heater core. Returns to lower hose area. I can't remember exactly, but I think there is a drain plug on the block, below the turbo someplace. Put a pipe nipple in there, to the heater. Other end to upper heater hose.
