The situation is this. A 2008 4x4 with manual transmission starts up just fine at -20F, block heater not used because no place is available to plug it in. After the heater grid stops cycling, the engine icon on the dashboard flashes for a while, and then stops. The truck is running fine otherwise. What's going on?

I've been away for a while, but lurking from time to time. :-laf

Are you talking about before you start it? Do you mean once your grid heater light goes out the check engine light is flashing? Or do you mean after its running and the grid heater quits cycling the check engine light flashes?

The check engine light flashes briefly once the truck is running and the heater grid has stopped cycling.

Possibly important disclaimer. The truck ain't mine. It belongs to a TDR friend in Wyoming who does not have access to a computer. There are still some people who don't. Oddly.
