This summer I would like to park with the engine and A/C running for more than an hour at a time. The RPMs stay around 800 and the temp is around 185. I would like to do this for 2 or 3 hours on the weekend days. Will this cause any damage to anything?

Yes, idle needs to be above 1100 or more to burn the fuel to prevent cylinder washdown. You can purchase a "High Idler" to keep the rpm's up or wedge something on the gas pedal for a cheap version.

In NM during the summer it takes a few hours to cool truck down enough to get in. That must be the reason...

Come on Steve, inquiring minds want to know. When on our summer vacations we often leave the truck idling with the A/C running while we eat so the dogs don't suffocate but never that long.

I let mine idle a few times for a half hour or so running A/C last summer, temps in the upper 90s to low 100s. I noticed anytime it was above 90-95 EGTs always stayed at 300F, probably due to the engine breathing in hot underhood air, and the intercooler not being able to function. I don't think extended idling in hot weather is nearly as bad as in winter, probably doesn't hurt at all.

A otr friend would idle all night durring the summer to keep the ac on- I agree with vaughn in 90-100deg heat I want the ac on- I bought an idler to increase the idle from 800 to 1100 rpm. if your doing the prolonged idle time get an idler worth the $$$- #ad

Thanks for all the help guys. If you must know why I idle the engine so long..... I do roadside windshield repair whenever I'm in one place for a couple of weeks or more. We're full time RVers, just traveling around the country, enjoying what this nation has to offer. 30 states & 90k mies in the past 4 years. Anyway, I enjoy the comfort of A/C and some 60s rock and roll between customers.
