Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine just shuts off.

For the 2nd time this week my engine has just shut off as I was driving with no warning. Both times were at low speed (20 mph). When I pull over and try to restart I have no lift pump ( no pressure on the gauges). Engine turns over fine but will not run. If I sit there for a few minutes and turn the key fuel pressure jumps to 15 and truck starts and runs. Any ideas-I have checked the electrical connections and all seem to be okay.

Which truck? There are two in your sig.



If it's the '99, your lift pump is dying. Take care of it BEFORE your injection pump goes with it. Try a search for the FASS system as a pusher. Pricey, but worth it.

lift pump... . had one on a friends truck do the same thing.

If it was the lift pump the truck should still run. The lift and injector pump were replaced 6 months ago. No codes have been thrown. Like I said truck just shuts off and when you try to restart engine turns over but lift pump does not come on. Wait a couple of minutes and it starts and runs with no problems. Fuel pressure before it shuts off and after I get it restarted is 15 at idle and 8 at wot.

Ignition swich or harness at ignition switch? Sounds like something is interrupting the "IGN ON" function, but not "ACCY" or "CRANK". Just a guess.
