Thanks guys I went ahead and took it off today. I was surprised by how light it was. I ordered the contacts and fuel shutoff solenoid diode from genos. Where does the diode go? Parts will be here tomorrow should I go ahead and remove starter contacts and plunger or wait for the DVD that comes with the kit? I'm not the greatest mechanic in the world, and if there's another heads up like the top bolt on the starter please chime in. That tip saved me a lot of time and I appreciate it. Thanks guys

jpogue, taking out contacts and plunger is an easy deal! Just unscrew the cap to solenoid. Plunger just pull it out, drop back in after you install new contacts. Contacts are easy too.

Well had Geno's send me a new fuel shut down solenoid (SA 4981-12),my old one was completly trashed ,the rubber boot wasn't even there and the rod was in bad shape,it's amazing it still worked somewhat.

Havn't had any trouble with it not shutting down so far.

Thank's again for all the great advise. They sent me a relay free with the solenoid is it worth just switch'em.

AGSmith, your's will last for a while (I still have my orginal relay with 261,000 on truck). You can keep it in the glove department as a spare or replace it and keep the old one as a spare.

I had this problem in my 98 12 Valve and it was the starter contacts which is a common problem for our earlier trucks. Larry B (foster Truck)has helped me several times with a starter rebuild kit also he sells a new DENSO (stock) starter with the big contacts and your starter problems will go away. The Staff is great also they even overnighted me a new starter so I could leave on a trip the next day he also has a kit which by passes all the wiring and go's directly to the battery and it works great and No "Clicking" Larry B will help and is a advertiser with the TDR.

Thank's Bob,

I will look into them. My solenoid was in really bad condition i think it was the original since '97 so i did change it out. I am going to do my starter very soon, as it's starting to play up.

Thank's again for your reply.

They have a cheap repair kit with directions that anyone could change the contacts as it's not difficult other then the top starter bold which can be removed easily with a 10 mm box end wrench also you can get a cheap starter on e bay or NAPA but I wanted the DENSO which is stock and is a good starter. You can get the repair kit from Larry B's or I think Geno's garage. Good Luck!
