Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine Light/Fault codes

Tuesday while leaving for a ice fishing trip, I was pulling away from a stop sign and my engine studdered and misfired and then smoothed out. The engine light came on. We went ahead on our day trip 240 miles, no more problems. The next day the engine light still on. How ever when I left for work that afternoon the engine light went out. My question is; Does the fault code stay in

computer and how can I retrieve the fault code? I have an appointment for Monday morning @ the dealer. Will the code still be there then? Thanks in advance. Steve: confused:

You can retrieve the fault codes by cycling the key from off to on three times (Off-On-Off-On-Off-On). Leave it in the On position the third time and any codes will display in the odometer window.



You can find the definitions of the codes here: OBDII Codes



The light only stays on for a few key cycles assuming the problem is no longer present. The code will stay available on the odometer window for about 40 start cycles, after that it's moved to computer memory to be retrieved by a scan tool.

I cycled the key 3 times. got codes P PCU, P 1693, P done, P ECU, P 0122, P done. I went to OBDII Codes and entered them one at a time and none matched. Any suggestions? steve :-(

P PCU signals the start of codes from the PCM

P1693: Fault generated in the companion engine control module. This usually shows up whenever you set a code.



P ECU signals the start of codes from the ECM

P0122: Throttle position sensor input below the acceptable voltage range (shorted low)



When you put the codes in that site, don't put a space between the P and the number.
