Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) engine light, high idle, no pedal

Today when I started my truck it idled at 1200 rpm. I left work and drove about 3 miles then it just fell to an idle. (850rpm) The engine light came on and the accelarator pedel was dead. I turned off the truck and restarted with no difference. I was idleing back to town and then the accelarator begin to work again, but it idled at 1200 rpm again . I took straight to the dealership (about 4 miles) because I didnt want a big tow bill. Any thoughts on what is happening? (2001 HO)

Sounds like your APPS took a dump about $400. 00 if not under waranty, just replaced mine.

I've been thinking my apps is going and am pretty certain its the original. i've seen some pics here at tdr of one cut open to reveal a pretty poor design. do any of you know if there is an updated one... better design since 99?

I just had to replace mine. I was able to recalibrate the old one and use it another 3-weeks before it failed completely. Thank goodness they had one in Del Rio.



On a side note, the first time I had a problem, I was pulling my 17K lb 5th wheel. I was really impressed the mighty Cummins was able to pull that weight at idle onto a side street.

apps sensor was bad . had 12 days left on warranty. this the 2nd. one . 97500 miles

lfuchs: Was that covered under your 5-yr/100K mile engine warranty or did you have an extra extended warranty coverage?
