Mine went south at 37000 miles. I got the 216 code back in Dec 05 coming back from Colorado with the 2nd pump. They put my lift pump in the tank and changed the APP sensor. It's been running fine since except for the low fuel pressure. I complained about the low fuel pressure so they tried another pump. They flowed the same amount of fuel. Dodge said they are within spec for the truck. Thats all the dealer can do. Jeff

My injection pump is also going south. I have the dreaded dead pedal and the P0216 code. Only hve 43000 miles on the truck. Will take it to dealer this week to fight with them I am sure on replacing the VP44.

I can pull my FP gauge down to 4 psi at WOT with the smarty on #3. I am guessing this isn't good, but I know that I am still within the 5/100,000 warranty.

Yes it is an epidemic! I got the code about 6 months ago (56K mi), but no symptoms. Last week, code + symptoms (61K mi). This week, new pump + install. Batteries, tires, VP-44, been an expensive year already for the truck :( Kinda shoots the heck outa the BOMBs budget.

New VP44

Well I took the truck in to the dealer for the P0216 code issue. Took them 5 minutes and mechanic said it was the lift pump and they replaced it under warranty. (I only have 43000 miles on the truck). Hopefully it holds up for a few years.

Anyone ever throw a P1291 code? it's injector something, if my memory serves me correctly, but it always happens after I've neglected to plug her in at night, & has thrown the code in as warm as 59F... . I have a new set of Bosch 300 injectors, but haven't installed them yet... The other thing I've noticed is the truck used to turn 2 rev's & then bang... idled instantly at about 800... Now it still fires at 2, but it's noticibly slower getting to idle.

Early signs of the IP going, or bad fuel/plugged injectors?... . I've seen no decline in fuel economy, & I run Lucas in nearly every tank.

My dad's 02 went through 3 VP 44 before it made it to 100000.

Lift pump and IP at 45000

Lift pump at 80000

lift pump and IP at 85000 (This Lift pump was junk to start with)

Updated Lift pump and IP at 92000

then he traded it in on his 05.

Ben,

Make sure you pull the smarty off before going to the dealer, or they'll void your warranty... . I believe anyway.

Same here. VP 44 & lift pump were replaced at 80,000 miles. The dealer installed the "recomended" in tank "upgrade" and now at 84,000 I'm getting some strange low power sensations and 1757, 1693 & 0216 codes.

I have an appointment at the dealer Monday morning.

I hope there is a permanant resolve before the clock reaches 100,000.

This stinks! It tarnishes my thoughts on what has been a very good truck.
