Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 12 valve leaking fuel

I just got through installing Edge Stage 2 injectors. The truck seems to have developed a slight lope at idle. It runs pretty smooth off idle but just doesn't run as smooth at idle. Is this normal? Do I need to disconnect the batteries and let the computer relearn? Also I have a 4" turbo back exhaust and at WOT I hit 1300 pre turbo now. Is this normal?

Where did you get your injectors? Did you buy complete Edge stage 2 injectors or have the nozzles put on your injector bodies?

Are you running a stock VP? Some of the Hot Rod VP's have a slight to moderate lope at idle that is amplified wth larger injectors.

I just went back outside and tried to start the truck after it had been sitting about an hour and I had to give it half throttle to make it start. I thought maybe I might have a leaking injector line and was getting air into the system, but I don't see any fuel leaking. When I changed the injectors I took a screwdriver and pried out on the intermediate tube a little to change the injectors. I assume that when you tighten the lines back down it would push the intermediate tube back in the head... . right?

It sure sounds like something might not be exactly right, but I can't really think what it might be. The factory service manual states:

"The fuel line fitting torque is very critical. If fitting

is under torqued, the mating surfaces will not seal

and a high-pressure fuel leak will result. If fitting is

over torqued, the connector and injector will deform

and also cause a high-pressure fuel leak. This leak

will be inside cylinder head and will not be visible

resulting in a possible fuel injector miss and low

power. "

Now, since I'm looking at roughly the same injectors for my truck, tell me how impressive the power gain was? Did it help out on bottom end? What about smoke?

I might try breaking the lines loose and re-tighten them. As far as the power goes the few miles I drove the truck there was a huge improvement in low end torque. Under WOT there is a little smoke but it really isn't bad at all. I am kind of concerned about EGT's though. I took the program back to factory with my Hypertech programmer and I am getting almost 1300 during WOT. Before the injectors with the Hypertech on max I would only get about 900 during WOT. I am worried that once I put my 32' 5'vr behind it I'll really have to watch EGT's to keep from melting the top out of a piston. But all that being said, high EGT's could be related to the other problems I am having at this time.

maybe bad oring on your cross over tubes my truck got to where it was hard to start and i had a bad o ring on a cross over tube

I have the same set of injectors as you And so does a friend of mine .

Both of our engines have a slight lope to them now with the new injectors. . which is normal But the hard starting Isn't normal you may have air in the lines and Injector lines aren't sealed correctly That will let air in And cause a hard start Situation .

Did you oil the fuel connector tube gaskets before you stuck them back in (for lube)? Are you certain the injectors were torqued down to the right torque? Did you replace the copper washers under the injectors?

I would loosen and tighten all lines again. Drive it for a few days, and see if you have fuel leaking from around one of the injectors where it bolts to the head. Most likely a loose line somewhere.

Are you using a Jhook? Also, you might try using the lowest setting on your programmer. The added timing may help cool it off a little.

I broke the lines loose this morning and reseated them but that didn't do it. I think I may have indeed torn a o ring on one of the connector tubes. I just hope I don't have an internal fuel leak. I am going to keep a eye on the oil level today. Man I hate having to crank on it for about 10 seconds after it sits. It makes me feel like I'm trying to start a Furd PowerJoke. :-laf:-laf:-laf

What i would do. This may be over kill for what's needed i don't know, but i would take the cross over tubes all the way out and look them over real good. Then i would clean them up with some scotch bright and brake cleaner put some new o-rings on them and put them back in and make sure they seat in the injector/head nice and good and torque the injectors lines properly.

Yeah the engine has about 205k miles on it. Is the check valve easy to change? Would changing out the injectors have caused the check valve to all of a sudden go bad?

I have also ordered a new set of o rings for the cross over tubes.

Today I installed Edge stage 2 nozzles on factory injector bodies. They were flow and pop tested by City Diesel. I installed them myself. The truck started pretty quick after the install and the idle stabilized after less than 1 minute. I've only put 10-12 miles on since the install, but I've had no lope or hard starting.

You might try breaking the injector lines loose, retorquing the injector hold down bolts, and then retightening the injector lines.
