Here is a different post that I started on it with info.

Read this thread first.

They have removed both drivelines 1 at a time and driven it to try and rule out any driveline issues. He said it is like a shudder or miss. They have watched the voltage on a snapon scanner for the sensors concentrating on the apps and all reads normal before and after changing the apps, cam, ait and map sensors. They changed them to rule out a voltage change that may have happened faster than the scanner could read. He has $4k into it trying to fix it. My advice is to try and load a smarty to see what happens. But the diesel shop tells him that he doesn't like programmers as he is more comfortable with external add on boxes. He doesn't want to try it. I am telling the truck owner to try mine and see if helps. He is leary though from what the shop told him. He wants to change both computers but I told him to try the smarty first as it will be free and he won't be out anything before he goes down that road.

Are there any other ideas that have been missed?

After all this I'd replace the batteries, clean all the connections and grounds and replace the alternator.

Forgot to say they already did the batteries and alt also. don't know about the grounds or connections though. I will ask about the grounds. I know the shop and these guys are real thorough so I would say they have already done it.

At $4000 I'd say this is definitely a 'shotgun diagnosis' shop! By all means, try the Smarty! You just might save an additional 2 or 3 thousand dollars!

I talked to them and they checked all the grounds and the connectors.

They where going to take it to the dealership to have the ecm reflashed and see what this does. More to come.
