Problems with Geno's Billet Fuel Filter Cap

A couple months ago my truck developed an intermittent miss. It would only do it once in a great while. Nothing would show up on the boost or fuel pres. gauges. I thought maybe my clutch was doing something goofy. Finally I was able to turn the juice down to "0", from "1" while it was missing. Problem gone. Called Edge, promptly got a new Juice, same old attitude. Took maybe a week for the problem to show up again. Still only happened with the Juice on any level other than "0", worse at higher levels.

Next step was unplugging the attitude. I thought maybe the attitude was defueling oddly. Juice defaults to level 2 I think so I figured it should still do it. Yep, it did. Just for the heck of it I installed the switch that came with the replacement Juice and that made no difference.

Truck has never skipped a beat when running w/o trailer, even on level 3 (I shy away from 4-5 if at all possible). As soon as the trailer is hooked up, it's back to missing. Seems to only do it around 2000-2500rpm and under light to moderate acceleration. Never does it when cruising, unless going up a hill. If I floor it, everything's OK.

If it were the Juice connections it should miss on "0", so I don't think those are an issue.

I'm not trying to pin this on the Juice. I get the feeling that for some reason my truck is suddenly "rejecting" the Juice, even though it's been in there for over a year (the original that is).

No Codes.

No more leakage around the injectors or CP3 than usual, which isn't much to

speak of.

I've got a case of oil sample kits coming. I've never had fuel in the oil yet. Maybe I've got a goofy injector???

This thing has really got me baffled. I'm probably gonna completely remove the Juice just to be safe, but that won't really tell me anything 'cause turning it off seems to "fix" the prob. What are the odds that I got 2 Juice's with the same prob??

Oh yeah. It seems that changes in the weather make it worse. 75* yesterday and 45* today and the miss was worse than ever. Not the first time I've noticed this.

EGT's "normal".

Any idears???

Throttle potentiometer? Does it do it on cruise control? It should not if it's the pot, since the 6 speed c/c is solid state (software), no moving parts.

Does it belch white smoke when it misses?

Mine did the same thing one time. Ran perfect w/o the TST and missed under lght throttle as soon as I turned it up past 1/1. Replaced the fuel filter and all was well.

I was having the same deal with my Predator. Still have no idea what it is. Checked the relief valve ... . OK checked and changed filter so I know its ok... ... . Lift pump maybe ... ... who knows

No smoke

Yes, it does it with cruise on

I have FP gauge, normal PSI all the time

A little birdy told me I should be pestering Edge a little more. I just might do that tomorrow. I don't see how it can be the wiring harness or connectors since everything's fine with the level set to "0".

I've never heard mine miss again after the FASS 95 install, otherwise it did it at idle, and on the throttle. Especially when it was cold out, back in WI.

I am also having a miss at high rpm when it feels like it wants to shift. It throws the p0016 code. Sometimes it will miss several times until I take my foot out of it. I have never set the juice higher than level three. I can get it to miss on level 2 and I havent drivin it hard in level 1.

I also have the viper alarm with remote start, could this have anything to do with it?

Any word on the fix?

No, still waiting. I'm getting impatient. I put the Juice back on last week. Ran fine. Even on levels 4 and 5, nothing other than a lot of fun and smoke. :D

Tonight I had to turn it to "0" cause I couldn't hardly accelerate it was missing so bad. Any wind other than tailwind seems to bring out the issue.

Still no codes. Doesn't make any sense. If it's missing that bad there should be a code right?

Since my last post I had to pull the Juice out again. I don't want that thing in my truck anymore.

Starting to get sick of calling Edge and hearing "I'll have a tech call you, hopefully early next week". To be fair, they may not have an answer, but I really wanna know what's going on.

No word from Edge yet, but that might not matter.

With the Juice sitting on the shelf, the truck bucked on the way home last night. This is the first time it's done this w/o the Juice. Cruise set at about 65 or so and it just started jumping. I kicked the cruise off and it stuttered for a few seconds and then everything was fine for the rest of the trip home. Today everything was normal.

Still no codes.

Juice went back in tonight and we'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm gonna try to take the delaer service manager for a ride Fri. with DC's scan tool. Maybe that'll pick up on something. Before I took the Juice out it would buck anytime I had the attitude above "0". With any luck I'll be able to duplicate the problem.

For what it's worth, mine does the exact same thing and I have no Juice, nothing. Bone stock. We are pretty certain it is bad fuel and a combination of burning the old fuel out, Power Serv fuel conditioner, and filters is slowly bringing it around.

FWIW, Edge called me back today. They think it's an injector issue that is amplified by the Juice. I can't argue with that.

I called my dealer a few minutes after talking with Edge. They had a truck on its way in shortly after I talked to him with the exact same issue. I think he said it has passed a bunch of their tests already, so who knows. I'm gonna stop in there tomorrow and see what they found out. By mere coincidence the other guy is also running the Juice w/atitude.

Truck did miss today with the Juice in on Level one. On the way home--empty trlr, I kicked it up to level 4 to see if I could make it miss. All that did is blow more smoke and impress the heck outta the guy riding with. :D Edge told me to remove the Juice if the dealer has to do any tests. I'm thinkin' about testing it both stock and Juice'd to see if anything turn up.

The other truck had been in a while ago and this was the second time. The dealer called Star and they referred him to cummins. The guy at Cummins said it's a dirty injector(s). The readings they took 4K ago and the ones yesterday after the injector cleaner seem to confirm that. He-the cummins guy, said the truck owner needs to run it hotter to keep it clean.

I don't know if my truck has the same problem or not, but that's where I'll start. I always thought soydiesel was one helluva cleaner, but I'll go get some Diesel Kleen and run a stiff mix of that for a while.

I'll have no trouble running hotter. I'll just have to force myself to let the juice help me up some of the hills. :D

If you think it's dirty injectors, get a can of Seafoam, follow the instructions on the can. Basically, with the engine hot, drain the filter canister, fill it w/ Seafoam, dump the rest into the fuel tank. Run the truck, be prepared for a bit of smoke - this works like a champ, local Cummins shop recommended to me.
