Pre-strainer. Where is it?

I would think about changing that fuel filter also. I have had the same symptoms which were corrected by doing that. Fuel pressure gauge could help diagnose that also ( I don't have one yet, so can't confirm that).

I had the same problem. Didn't bother to check the pressure. Just yanked out the old one, put in a new one. Problem solved.

I forgot to mention that I have 23,500 on the pickup. My biggest concern is I had planned on heading out tomorrow night to AZ pulling my 38ft 5th wheel. I've been planning on installing a pressure gauge after reading the stories on here, just haven't gotten around to it yet. (Now I know I should have #ad
) It sounds like I'd better not head out of state with it until I can get it checked. Hopefully my dealer can look at it in the morning, then it would really be wishful thinking for them to have a lift pump.

Thanks for the responses.

Also check the connection at the fuel solenoid wire where your ottomind connects. If it is bad it will act the same way.

Hey P. E.
My Truck did the exact same thing at 72K miles, then about 72. 8K "Check Engine" Light came on.

See my Story

Replaced the "Lift Pump" and problems dissapeared.

Took my Pump about 200 Miles to completely Puke. (Computer shut truck down)

John, I'll check that and see if it maybe isn't getting a good connection. I'm not really thrilled with the scotch lock they use, but I don't have a better idea just yet.
Can I add an after market inline pump simply to the fuel line running from the tank near the tank? Even if my lift pump is bad?

My engine just started missing at full throttle, it cuts out and back in just like you let completely off the throttle and floored it again. I replaced the fuel filter 10,000 miles ago. I'm certain the fuel is good and I always run an additive. Is this the famous "lift pump problem"? How soon till it quits me completely?

Thanks,
Jerry

P. E. in the long run ditching the stock lift pump and moving a better pump closer to the tank will be money well spent , this is my ultimate goal , but i do plan to keep a pump in the stock location along with the factory lines as a back up should my replacement pump leave me sitting on the side of the road .

About how long would you estimate it will take to mount an aftermarket pump and bypass the factory unit? What else do I need besides the pump?
(wondering if I have time to do it tomorrow or if I should take the car to AZ)

jerry, have the pressure checked if the lift pump is going south engine may still rum as the injection pump can suck fuel but in the process might damage it self.
read the threads for lift pump there is a lot of R and D going on.
but for noe have the lift pump checked for pressure
bob

Jerry,
Without delay and continued use, have your fuel pressure checked as Bob just mentioned. Although you didn't mention how many miles you have, these lift pump problems are appearing more often. Secondly, install a fuel pressure gauge, well worth the money and effort to know what is happening for longevity. Keep us posted. Dave

P. E. --if you cut the into the stock line it shouldn't take you too long, but then again that depends on the pump you'll be using--if you're going to a high gph pump you'll want to run a separate return line to help cool the pump-eventhough in a pinch you'd probably be ok to cut it in and then later on redo the plumbing--run the power off the OEM pump wire thru a relay though--probably 1-2 hrs if you cut into the stock line---chris

Thanks Chris! How long does it take to replace the Banjo bolts with regular fittings? And Which ones do I need, I've read the mega novel thread and can't really follow it all. I don't plan on going over 350 to 400hp (wanna run a few 100k). Are these pretty specialized connectors? I live in small town USA with pretty limited resources.

Thanks!!!!
