Anyone notice a distinct knocking noise above 2200 with a light load on the 2001. 5 HO? No load, no noise. Usually in cold weather. Not always present. Only between 2200 and 26-2800. 3K on engine. Sounds like it is from rear of engine.

Any help appreciated.

This isnt exactly related, but mine makes a bad sounding noise at 2200 rpms also. But it only happens on downhills when Im off the gas pedal and using compression braking. It sounds pretty bad, like the pistons are rattling around in the cylinders. It hasnt seemed to hurt anything yet. Still runs great. I'm not worried about it. Its done it since it was new.

Otherwise, I dont have any bad sounds under a load at that rpm. Guess we'll have to wait for more input from the boys.

I get a bad noise at that rpm too after doing some hard towing for a while. It would seem that it's related to the engine oil temp. My oil temp gets close to 220 under hard towing and thats when the noise seems to occur. It sounds like a loud (scary) clatter like normal engine clatter, but louder and more harsh. It started it when I towed out to colorado and I'm still pretty worried about it.

It's the pump. In cold weather these pumps make a distinct loud knocking/rattling sound. The P700 was worse than the 44's. Usually you can ease off the throttle a little and it will quieten down but not disappear. Giving it a little throttle makes it sound like it has really been put to work. These pumps usually quieten donw a little as more miles are put on them.

I've got it too!

Did you ever get this solved? On mine, I get this problem, and, if I back off, the knock goes increases to a rapid knock and then disappears, just like it is a compressor stall (which it can't be, or it would happen every time, I assume), but that's what it sounds like.

This always occurs under load, uphill, at about 2200 RPM. If I ignore it (!) and just power through it, it goes.

Ugh.

I've been experiencing something similar to what you describe, however mine is more of a fluttering sound. Is this the same thing? I've wondered about it and if it's hurting anything, but seems to subside somewhat once the engine is fully heated up.

Thanks in advance!

When I towa larger load for an extended period of time, or just plan romp the throttle for a bit, I get a LOUD rattling sound when I give it throttle. It sounds like a ball bearing getting beat to hell inside the turbo... . Terrible rattle... I have had the dealers go for long rides with me, and they don't know what it is either. they can't find anything wrong.

My buddy with a 12v told me that his does the same, and he has 250K+ on his truck, and nothing has melted away yet. Maybe its normal? I still dont like it
