Just wanted to make sure it was normal but does anyone else's Cummins sound different at about 1,800 - 2,000 RPM I have a 2001 HO 6 speed and it only happens when I am going slow and holding that rpm.

NShadbolt,

Didn't notice from your sig if you were running any mods like an Edge box or something. On my 99, depending on what I'm doing with it, that's about where the Edge may cause a fueling or "timing" change and the sound from the engine compartment changes slightly, especially in colder weather. It's been so long since it was stock, that I can't remember if it did that from the factory:D.

Don't know if the noise you hear is like the one I had on My 99 But here is what I had and the fix . Cause was the heater hose that comes out of the fire wall to the side of the block sounded like a loud rushing or extra turbo. solution bought longer hose moved to plug hole forward on block switched the plug from front to rear location and put the hose fitting in front plug location . I know its hard to figure why this is but it works. Lol Ron in Metro Louisville KY:-{} ;)

Mine makes a different sound in cold weather, under light load it sounds like a wheel bearing gone bad or something. No vibration, no degredation in performance, just the sound. I realized it wasn't vehicle speed related, but rather engine speed related, when I downshifted (or upshifted) to an rpm that was above or below the 1800-2000 range it would quit, regardless how fast I was going.

I quit worrying about it as it went away when the weather warmed up. Came back with a short cold spell, then went away again when it warmed back up after that.

I was told it was normal by a few folks on here that had the same thing.

Hope this helps.

talked to edge about that today

mine is doing the same thing

and yes it is a timing change happening

sounds like its a normal thing

I just installed a edge EZ and now have a different sound. I was thinking that the radiator shroud was loose or maybe the fan. everything seems fine. So it the Edge??
