Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine noise levels?

My '02 ho was parked beside a buddies '01. 5 ho and my truck is louder than his, a little more clatter and louder overall noise level. His truck is all stock down to the mopar filters. Why the difference? Also with the comp turned off does it just act as a boost fooler and no timing, or nothing at all. What does level one equate out to?

I believe '02 models had the underhood matting "deleted. " Also, with your box off, it does act like a boost fooler. On "1" I think it is supposed to be equivalent to an EZ (approx +65 HP, +160 FT-LBS???). I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
